I really like "Speedy." I wish KINO or Criterion would release it on Blu-ray.

Well I went a little Criterion crazy over the past week. Picked up blus in the US for Man Who Fell to Earth, El Norte and Marienbad for $26 each. All are in their original digipaks. When I got back to Canada, bought The Leopard blu & Videodrome(DVD tho). I have some watchin to do! Have not seen El Norte or Marienbad before though...

Italy For all the non-believers...

Stopped in B&N tonight after work and went to the Criterion Blus. I was stopped by a very helpful employee who asked if I knew of the current sale (B2G1) and then whispered like it was a huge secret if I heard about the sale on Tuesday. I asked, "The 50% off sale?" and she smiled and said yea!

She said the sale would last until 8/2, and when she ordered a copy of Mystery Train for me, she showed me the computer and the dates were, in fact, correct.

I also noticed that they stocked up on CC Blus as they had 2 and 3 copies of almost all of the CC movies...even ones that they had not carried in a while. It had been a long time since I saw titles like In the Realm of the Senses, El Norte, The Last Metro, Bottle Rocket, Monsoon Wedding and a few others...but they had plenty tonight. For some odd reason, however, my store will not stock the Mystery Train BD. They had the DVD, but not the Blu.

So, long story short, I put aside about 11 or 12 titles, including The Leopard and The Yojimbo and Sanjuro box for Wednesday night after work...

Thank god for a second job!!

By the way, anyone notice the price of Wings of Desire at B&N? It is priced at $49.99 instead of $39.99. Online, I think it is still 39.99. There was a second copy there tonight also priced at $49.99.

-Dave...psyched for Wednesday!

Yes it is. There is The Best Arbuckle/Keaton Collection that has that and others on Amazon you can buy if interested. I believe it is also in the Buster Keaton set by Masters of Cinema.

Also the Griffith film coming up stars Lillian Gish, who (to bring it back around to Criterion) is in Night Of The Hunter as well.

Before I started getting into Criterion films last year I'd honestly never heard of him. Overall I do enjoy most of the Godard films I've seen. I really don't fully understand the level of hate some people have towards the guy's films. I've never gotten around to listening to any commentaries or interviews of Godard that are probably on his Criterion releases so I can't speak on his personality/attitude. With Godard do his critics just hate his films or do they view him as an @sshole in real life?

I believe shipping is free for orders over $25 right now and in-store prices are the same as online. So I'd assume both are roughly the same price as long as you spend >$25 online. I'm going to just order mine since my local stores always have a poor selection and I'm not in a big hurry.

Some critics praise him for his name (which is wrong in it's way), but the critics who "hate" his films is because of the way he goes about things. I guess because he kind of says "F media/critics/etc" and tells it like he sees it, they in turn, turn on him. That's my only guess. But they hide it with "pretentious" and "boring". Um, I have seen worse in the pretentious and boring categories.

There are 2 sides of Godard for me in his movies (let's just stick with his 60's output) that I love and are reasons he appeal to me. 1, is a fun, youthful play that can't be controlled, both in the story and direction. 2, is the political rebellion that if you like it or not, raises questions about how is life supposed to be lived.

True for DVD, but not for LD. They re-started the numbering once they got to DVD. LD spine #1, for instance, was Citizen Kane. On DVD, Grand Illusion was #1. The Lady Vanishes was spine #3 for DVD, and #4 for LD. But I understand why they didn't start the process over again for blu-ray.

Are any coupons online yet?
I just purchased a BN membership and heard that some people got Blus for 13$ at the last sale?
How is that even possible?

Here is how I got all my criterion blus for less than $14 each. Go to store and use the $5 off One DVD coupon which can be found here:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/email/...1512-_-Primary

This is exactly how it showed on my receipt last year:

Seventh Seal
(1 @ 39.99) PROMO New Price
(1 @ 20.00) Member Card 10% (2.00)
(1 @ 18.00) MBR Item Cpn $ (5.00)
(1 @ 13.00) 13.00

Subtotal 13.00
Sales Tax (7%) 0.91
TOTAL 13.91

I only used one coupon at a time so I went to several different stores several times each.

That's only because the online prices already reflect 10% off. But, you're only going to get 50% off the list price, which should be the same no matter where you buy the films.
