I urge any cinema lover to check out North by Northwest ('59) directed by the legendary and masterful director of suspense Alfred Hitchcock. I also wanna recommend Psycho ('60) that is releasing this October on the 19th.
![]() And if you like those films, I also recommend Rear Window, Vertigo, The Birds, Rope, Strangers on a Train, Rebecca, Notorious ('46), Shadow of a Doubt, The Lady Vanishes, The 39 Steps, and almost any film by that director when/if they ever get BD releases. Though you might as well rent them on DVD, if you can bear watching DVDs. But those are films worth discovering on just about any format you can get a hold of. Ther'ye older movies than many people are probably used to, but there's no better time than to discover the classics! ![]() Also: Dial M for Murder is rumored. So I would also recommend that one! ![]() If you want to find out about more films by that director, I suggest going to IMDb.com and simply looking up that director and his films. ![]() This director has been a revelation of cinema to me, and I have a feeling there's a lot of people/cinema lovers who haven't discovered or simply considered this great and masterful director! ![]() Last edited by paul_66; 07-12-2010 at 10:39 AM. |

a few titles hand-picked from my collection:
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen Terry Gilliam classic that has a stronger Monty Python feel than his later works. Amelie Have to get it imported, but it is region-free and totally worth while. A beautiful flim with a great story and beautiful visuals. Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon A mockumentary focused on a serial killer. Funny, an engaging villain, and some neat shots make this a winner in my book. Creepshow Campy horror shorts collection collaboration between Stephen King and George Romero. Some scary stories and some brilliant stories. A beautiful watch beginning to end. From Dusk Till Dawn Robert Rodriguez + Quinten Tarantino + George Clooney = best thing ever. The Girl Next Door Not to be confused with the Elisha Cuthbert vehicle, this is a torture horror classic. Great set-up, truly sad events, and a nausea-inducing story. A blind buy on my part... I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Perhaps my #1 under-rated classic. Paper Heart Cute little love story starring Michael Cera. It is a psedu-documetary, so Cera plays himself and Yi plays herself. The camera almost feels like a third character, which makes the viewer uncomfortable at some of the peeks into Cera and Yi's "life". Salvage Doesn't look good, doesn't sound that great, mediocre acting, and cheap special effects are all overshadowed by a brilliant script. Recommended for the horror fan. Triangle Watch it. Join the club. That was more than one. Oops. |

Speed Racer (2008)
Why? Absolutely stunning Picture Quality. I have seen around 100 blurays and none of them have the PQ of Speed Racer. 100% digital and perfect. It has the PQ of animated movies but its live action. I watched a few scenes last night and the quality amazed me again. Parts of the film looked like moving high quality photos. Stunning. I have a feeling Warner Bros wanted to boost sales of the blu-ray by producing an awesome picture for the format to make up for its losses in the theaters. The movie itself is at the very worst "fun". Personally I really liked the movie not sure how you can dislike it. And to top it all off, it can be found almost anywhere now for only $10. If its not in your collection it should be, especially at this price. |
