Benjamin Button for some reason is listed as a Paramount title and isn't included in the B&N sale? At least, online.

Paramount distributed it, but asked Criterion if they could put their logo on it. That's why it comes in a regular Blu-ray case.

Only July pre-orders are included as they are released during the sale.

Shouldn't matter..... it's in the $17 or $18 range on Amazon regularly..... the MSRP is probably still $39.99 so with the discount etc.... it wouldn't be any cheaper than that...

Just the experience, I'd think. Picking up in store is the same as buying at the store except the items are already set aside for you when you're gonna pick them up in store.

I'm pretty sure there is a sales tax no matter how you choose to purchase the discs. I've never made a B&N purchase online or in-store and not had to pay sales tax. It's a given.

Concerning the sale, the discounts all come off the MSRP list price. So, you're going to start paying the same no matter where you shop. However, depending on how many coupons you can get to work online or in-store will determine your final pricing.

So, if there's one downside to every B&N Criterion sale it's all the countless posts listing what everyone got.

I want to pickup copies of Salo, Last Temptation of Christ, and Battle for Algiers ... anyone hear if they're coming to Criterion blu-ray soon?

If not, are the DVD versions going to upscale so they're a worthy purchase?

I'd like to think that "Battle For Algiers" is likely to be put on blu-ray at some point in the future but who knows when that'll be. I'd also love to see Criterion give "Salo" the blu-ray treatment, as well, because the BFI blu-ray and packaging is wonderful! I don't see "The Last Temptation of Christ" coming, though, any time soon. It still looks great, though, when upscaled through my PS3.

ccfixx, thanks for the reply, I also use a PS3. I'm curious as to why you don't see Temptation on BD anytime soon? TIA.

I've already got most of the Criterion Blu-rays that I want but I was thinking of getting Last Year at Marienbad. What are the chances that I'll get stuck with the older Digipak version? Are they still being sold in stores?

Also, will there be any new 10% off coupons before the sale ends? I wanted to buy The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus, only problem is the coupons don't work on pre-orders and all the coupons in the DVDTalk thread expire on July 19, one day before the release date.

I think your chances of getting the digipak are 95% to 100%. Other than "The Third Man" before it went OOP, I haven't heard of anyone getting any of the original digipak releases in a plastic case... either online or from a store.

B&N is pretty consistent with releasing new coupons when the older ones expire. So, I'm pretty sure you'll come across some others before the sale is over.

At this point, I just don't see it high-up on the Criterion totem pole of catalog titles to revisit for blu-ray. Obviously, I could be wrong. I'm sure a lot of it depends on how well the title originally sold on DVD. And if they do ever get around to it, I imagine it would be, at least, 1 to 2 years away. That's just my thoughts, though.

So they never had to reprint anything but The Third Man? Did not know that.

Thanks, then I'll hold off for now. Worse comes to worst I'll only get the 10% off from the link, same as now, so no point in rushing.

cc, thanks again. I'm going to pickup the DVD versions ... if they're out on BD in the future, double-dippage will ensue.

Agreed.
It's like cool story, go watch the films you got!

This thread will eventually get clogged with "Just received a shipping notice from BN. __________ shipped today!"

And here I was thinking that my silly little post was gonna get looked over and forgotten. Awwwww, shucks... you guys are too good to me.

Hopefully, we can redirect everyone to put their B&N sale lists to the "B&N 50% off" thread in the Deals section. That's a good place for people to boast about their purchases.

Also, if you are a member, present your card and you get the 10% off. As for us who are members and use the online site (we don't get the 10% off but we get free express shipping now...).

That is true. Even online wherever you are because they have a brick and mortar store in nearly every state I think. So, they charge tax.

Yep. The only thing I can recommend to people on this sale is to not use the regular barnes and noble website but to use the third party B&N URL such as AAA (if you are a member), library (choose personal), use Boeing or Visa to get the 7-10% off.

And then there are new coupons...new member 20% off, 15% off, 10% off and a 5% off coupon for one item and the in-store coupons.

BTW, for those in another country who have been asking if there will be hidden charges. From the last sale, people reported that they were dinged with custom charges. That depends on your country and I suppose the weight of the package sent to your country and yes, you will have to pay that custom charge.

If anyone on here who has ordered early and gets their shipment early, please share with other users on the other Criterion's bargains thread (who are from other countries who plan to purchase from the sale) who maybe purchasing before the August deadline of what is a typical custom charge once they receive their shipment.
