Default War Films on BR, PQ Recommendations?

I'm thinking on buying: A Bridge Too Far and Battle of Britain and I was wondering if anyone had anything positive to say in regards to the PQ on these movies. I'm thinking on picking them up but I'd like to know if anyone had any recommendations.

I'm also thinking about picking up Patton and The Longest Day. If anyone can offer any comments, please do so.

Best bet would be to check out the reviews here. But Patton has DNR hell, and Bridge Too Far isn't much better than the DVD. Don't know about BoB or LD.

Well, I've tried the reviews on here but, unfortunately, like many low income people here, I have a 32" HDTV. The reviews here were reviewed by using an HDTV higher than 60" so of course you're going to have picture degradation.

I saw the reviews on Lethal Weapon and I just watched it earlier today and I have no problems with the PQ.

A've only seen A Brdige too Far from those, it is worth buying for the movie itself but I do not recall it being great for the PQ. If you don't have the DVD, then it is worth it.

As far as War movies go, City of Life and Death was amazing if you can find it. I am not sure if it was released in the US but highly recommended, I think one of the best war films I've watched.

Both were amazing. The episode of BoB in the Ardennes forrest was stunning.

To the OP:

I have Patton, and wasn't as annoyed with it as some. Is that the two-pack at Wal-Mart you're talking about, I just saw them yesterday and may swing by this week-end and pick them up. If so I'll give my opinion then. Do you like stories about more modern conflicts? Black Hawk Down was good, and We Were Soldiers also.

By some fluke, the local Walmart's got in a copy of the double feature title, Kelly's Heroes and Where Eagles Dare ... one of my all-time favourite movies ... Kelly's Heroes. So, it was an automatic blind purchase for me. However, I have been eying that Bridge Too Far 2-pack movie collection. Looks like I'll be passing on it. Maybe I'll just aim for Patton and The Longest Day instead.

To: Rob. Sure, I'd be interested in hearing your review on that 2-pack you're buying. Patton has always been one of dad's favorite movies. The Longest Day with John Wayne, one of my favorite actors, I wouldn't mind hearing a review on that, as well.

I wasn't crazy about it, but The Hurt Locker has a pretty amazing Blu-Ray.
The video is fantastic and the audio is stunning (the subwoofer gets quite the workout).
I don't think it deserved all the Oscars and recognition it got, it was only OK to me...
It was really good at points, but then got eh when it got repetitive or when it'd show a sniper's view for about 5-10 minutes with nothing happening and little to no dialogue.

Thanks. I just purchased the double feature "Kelly's Heroes/Where Eagles Dare." IO can't wait to sit down and actually watch Where Eagles Dare since I've yet to watch it ... ever.

Kelly Heroes's is one of my favorite movies, and I feel that the BD had just a bit of too much contrast added to it, plus there is also that lip-synch issue in the last part of the movie.

32" TV? Aren't they practically giving those away now? I mean under $500?

You can get a new 42" 2010 Panny plasma for around $950.

I bought it at release and it looks and sounds slightly above average. I think the main problem is that they used an older master and instead of a fresh scan, which was probably to save money.
