Throw Mother from a Train was a rip on Strangers on a Train
Escape from L.A was a rip on Escape from NY (even though it's made by the same person. lol) Superman Returns is a rip on Superman. I love hearing Dark City is a Matrix ripoff. Even though it's the other way around. And now Inception will be a Dark City/Matrix rip. Yep I'll hear it. ![]() |

I know I saw a movie not too long ago that was a total ripoff of Fistful of Dollars, but I can't recall. Maybe Lucky # Slevin?

Speaking of Spaghetti Western rip-offs, was anybody else kind of pissed about the co-opting of "Harmonica" from "Once Upon a Time in the West" in the third Pirates of the Caribbean flick? If you want people to appreciate a composer, like Ennio Morricone, write a score that is paying homage to their work. Write something reminiscent of their work. Write music that relates to their music, so the fans get it, and the people who don't know have the chance to find out. Don't take your favorite song and sample it. |

I enjoyed Spawn more than Faust: Love of the Damned.
I enjoyed Babe more than Gordy. I enjoyed Sunshine more than Armageddon and Event Horizon. I enjoyed Dead Silence more than Devil Doll. Though I don't see Inception as a ripoff of Dark City or The Matrix I do tend to lean toward The Cell and Paprika, both of which pale in comparison to Nolan's film. If we're including parodies, I'd take High Anxiety over Vertigo. |

Obviously it's a matter of opinion, but I think there are many that are better; sometimes because the source is crap, and sometimes because the copy is very good.

Generally speaking, i think Tarantino's movies are better than the ones he's influenced by or "ripping off." I will freely admit that style can woo me over substance.

Just about every movie in the last 20-40 years is a ripoff one way or another of another movie. I think thas why Hollywood can't find nothing original original. |

Taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wa..._and_analogues
Star Wars was heavily inspired by Akira Kurosawa's films The Hidden Fortress and Yojimbo. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope features the exploits of C-3PO and R2-D2, whereas the plot of The Hidden Fortress is told from the point of view of two bickering peasants. The two peasants, Tahei and Matashichi, are first shown escaping a battle, while C-3PO and R2-D2 are first shown fleeing an attack in A New Hope. Additionally, both films feature a battle-tested General – Rokurota Makabe in The Hidden Fortress and Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope – who assist a rebellion led by a princess and engage in a duel with a former rival whom they fought years earlier. Lucas also features many horizontal wipe scene transitions in A New Hope, a technique used thoroughly by Kurosawa in his films. |

The Hidden Fortress is hardly the only thing Star Wars take's from. Western, medieval stories, Flash Gordon & Buck Rodgers.....
Star Wars is a series of influence all wrap together in a fun package. It's everything Lucas grew up with and read about while in college. |
