Also, I had no complaints about grain as a first time experience, 300 being the first one I ever saw on Blu-ray, never knew anything about grain as well, totally ignorant on the matter. But that's just me.
but you had no complaints about dnr either right?

I remember Dark City looked wrong to me but couldn't pin point it, then I learned about DNR later on. I'm speaking honestly.

well I thought we were talking about "the masses". It was a question whether the masses who arent videophiles would like a plastic, waxy, dnr'd to death look or if they would prefer a more grainy accurate film representation......I asked which version you think a person who is new to blu and just wanted to show off their hd tv would find more appealing.......

They usually do.....there was another version out that catered to enthusiasts and people still complained about it and said "it was the best it will ever look due to the source"..

Considering this release, "they" were right.

agreed.

this whole thread reminds me of a quote from City Slickers:

Mitch "DNR" Robbins: O.K., if you want to watch one show but record another show at the same time, the television set does not have to be on channel 3.

Phil "grainy" Berquist: Yeah it does.

Mitch Robbins: No it doesn't.

Phil Berquist: It does.

Mitch Robbins: No, if you're watching what you're recording, then it has to be on 3.

Phil Berquist: What... the TV or... or the machine?

Mitch Robbins: The TV.

Phil Berquist: You're saying I can record something I'm not even watching?

Mitch Robbins: Yes, that's the point. You don't even need a TV to record.

Phil Berquist: How would I see it?

Mitch Robbins: Well to see it you need a TV.

Ed Furillo: Shut up! Just shut up! He doesn't get it! He'll never get it! It's been 4 hours! The cows can tape something by now! Forget about it please!

mars396: They don't get it! They are never going to get it! It's been 207 pages ! The emoticons can understand supply and demand by now! Forget about it please!

I wonder what the emoticon's have to say about the demand of a product tie-in release vs. the demand of a standard catalog title.

Sales figures in this instance are crap, given the release of the new Predators film. No one can say with any certainty whether or not the title would have sold more or fewer copies if they simply repackaged the old transfer with additional special features and Movie Cash.

he's not talking about Predator Grain-O-Vision vs. Predator UHE !
he was never talking specifically about Predator Grain-O-Vision vs. Predator UHE !

In that case supply and demand has no relevance to the post you quoted. Besides, I can record more than two channels at once while watching another channel.

As to his meaning, he is referencing that if a new scan was done then comparing the quality of one transfer to another from seperate scans, even of the same movie, is like comparing two different films.

OK folks, that was the 98th time the word "ignorant" was posted in this thread.

Should we give a prize to the person who posts the 100th ???

(I am thinking a box of Whole Grain Cereal would be an appropriate prize...)

And the answer is in. Check #13 on Amazon's most popular bluray deals and notice the green up arrow.

It's not an ignorant statement. I know of plenty of people who play games and most (not all) of them hate film grain and often say something like, "Why can't the film be as clear as the PS3 games I play?" They view film grain as video noise/artifacts. Their lifelike games have no grain, so why should movies (in their eyes).

Man, I had several call me up yelling to me about the movie, 300. lol They were really pissed about that one.

Looking at current sales figures of either release and trying to draw conclusions to support one side if this grain/dnr jerkfest is completely absurd.

Unless you are polling random people who buy this release directly, and what they know about the picture quality before purchasing, it's worthless to even mention.
