"BD only won the week 65-35"

Too bad Ratatouille, Cars & Spiderman are only on Blu ray.

Mr. Vaughn can't be here to defend himself, and so I ask people to refrain from direct personal attacks.

Attack the message all you want, but not the messenger.

It's hard for me to get concerned for Ratatouille sales---regardless of how it well it moves in week 1, are there any other BD titles that will have longer legs than Pixar/Disney releases over time?

as dialog said, why would he post something that will be so easily discredited. I think 65-35 sounds about right. Ratatouille was a great movie but it underperformed in theatrical release and so I don't expect it to hit a home run in BR. Face it, Toshiba has been masterful in the last few months - cheap HD-DVD player sales are going to effect the ratio.

The only thing you would have to account for is the free movies that were given at the time of purchase that counted as "sales". But I thought the majority of the sales were spiderman week, not Rat week. Oh well, I'll say this I was telling everyone not to expect Rat to sell like the Spider because you have to look at who your customers are current for highdef. It's not exactly family friendly yet. Disney admitted this to me in a meeting. It's one reason why you don't see Jungle Book on highdef right now (DVD just released again last month). Next year is when Disney is expecting to have some of their animated titles (Sleeping Beauty and Tinker Bell I think) go blu.

Am I in the Twilight Zone??? How is 65-35 bad especially after the $98 HD DVD player sale? I do find it funny thought that HD DVD is getting beaten so bad in discs sales the supporters can only say "Well we didn't lose by THAT much this week."

i already broke down what i think hd dvd sold for the week and that is 80k. if rat only did 70k, that would mean that spiderman (combined) did less than 30k this week, cars did less than 20k and everything else combined did less than 40k, i just find those numbers incredibly low. vaughn cites poor blu-ray sales as the reason for the low numbers, not improved hd dvd ones, so the sale didn't create some high amount of sales for hd dvd that threw off the %s. i don't think vaughn's numbers make any sense, once they are broken down. it appears to be in your face, i hope people see this and believe it without thinking about it FUD!

The $98 player did not include any scanned movies. It came with 5 from mail-in-rebate.

I think its time to realize that there will not be a single title or a single week to crush HD DVD. My score is this: 45:0 - which 45 straight weeks of winning. Let's just keep it going by continuously supporting the Blu.

Errr, masterful? I think not. Effect the ratio? If you mean by effecting the reatio you mean not changing the ratio from last week, then yeah, maybe.

Like I said earlier, 65:35 are great #s. I think people were expecting too much this week, especially with those cheap ass players in the mix. The HD DVD camp wishes they had these #s.

There is no doubt about that at all. Red won't win a single week for a long time, if ever.

Possibly true, I had a hell of a time finding it not being sold out at stores near me. I'm in Oklahoma City , so while it's not a huge city it's still pretty good sized.

I wonder if they shipped out less than we all thought.

Either it was the $98 player or the $199 player, they were giving away 3 movies at the point of sale along with the mail-in-rebate for 5 others.

It was just like the X360 add on, they gave away movies for free with it that counted towards the sales because they were scanned at the POS. That's why Heroes has made a big jump back on the sales charts.

I honestly was expecting it to be closer after that sale but it looks like the 40GB basically offset it I dunno.
