I guess for me it would be "You Only Live Twice"...Sean Connery as James Bond (June of 1967). I was bearly nine years old and seeing it with my parents at the drive-in theater.

The next after that...and not only one that I remember explicitly...but one that I went to see on my own with my brother. "2001: A Space Odyssey" (April 1968). This time in a movie theater in Nanuet, NY that (at the time) had a state of the art "multi-channel" sound system with huge woofers.

Close behind that is "Yellow Submarine" (November 1968) that I also saw in a movie theater as a Saturday afternoon matinee.
The earliest I remember is Jaws... I was 3 when it ca,e out, so I obviously didn't go opening day... but I was 3 or 4, because it was the same year I had swimming lessons and afterwards didn't want to go into the deep end, because I thought the shark lived there, lol.

First one without my parents, Batman, but I'm sure that must've been 67 or 68, so not a first run.

First one I know I saw in the initial run was a triple feature at the drive-in, Paint Your Wagon, True Grit, & The Wild Bunch.
We also saw Paint Your Wagon at the drive-in as well.

First film I saw that scared the crap out of my like that was Night of the Living Dead (the 1990 remake) when I was 9. I had never seen the original and had no idea what zombies were before that. Thing scared the crap out of my for the longest time. Nowadays when I watch it it's not even scary.

First movies I really remember were No Time for Sergeants and Fiend Without a Face in 1958. The latter was the first time a movie scared the #@$%^ out of me. I remember thinking at the time; "That's not fair - how can i fight them if I can't see them."

&also i agree w/neo78956's assessment of M. Fritz Lang. i've seen most of his filmography (of what i can get my hands on, still so many unreleased or i can't obtain) and M is one of his crowning achievements. furthermore what's amazing is how entertaining M STILL IS if people sat down through it =). it's still quite sensational as it was back in the days it was shown!

I remember seeing Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (as a drive-in double feature with Wrath of Khan no-less!) back in 1984 when I was five. I also remember seeing The Goonies in 1985 when I was six.

Haha yeah... but I still hate the water.

I wonder if that has anything to do with it... deep down...

Just got done with a Double Feature: Last Year at Marienbad and Mystery Train. Last Year is simply incredible with it's beautiful, disjointed, mind-boggling narrative. It demands your attention, and even then it'll leave you hanging on every sentence and movement, trying to put it all together. Mystery Train is interesting with its portrayal of a town that will never be as great as it's past, but is nevertheless great because of it. It's filled with voyeur's that romanticize it, stranger's that are frightened by it, and locals that will never escape it. Although both films are far from similar, I personally found a binding thread in the sense that the salon in Marienbad takes on a life of its own, singlehandedly seeming to create most of the chaos involved wherein Memphis obviously has a life of it's own too. I highly recommend both.

Watched the Davil Gulpilil doc and was surprised to find that the actor was living in poverty in 2002 (his house looked like something from a shanty town), the year the doc was made. He must of been payed squat for his performances, and he was in lots of films and TV shows! I hope he is making better $ now, one can hope, since he's better actor than many of the mega bucks stars out there.

I decide to get,

The Only Son - There Was A Father combo from Yasijiro Ozu. At that price itès well worth it and will go well with my Silent Ozu box set

The only authentic version is the one with white ring (and 29 chapters). Everything else is bootleg.

This seems to be one of the best links currently available: dvdcompare.

Remember pretty well seeing films like The Longest Day and How The West Was Won and Thunderball and Von Ryan's Express at the drive-in and To Kill A Mockingbird, A Hard Day's Night (complete with teenie boppers screaming), Goldfinger at the regular theater (as with Bambi).

It's not that he wasn't paid a fair wage. It's stated in the doc a few times that money and property is communal in aboriginal culture so everyone in the tribe got a piece.

Well, his living conditions on the doc looked pretty grim IMO.

If you have a white ring version and you want to get rid of it let me know how much you'd want for it.

I remember back a few years when the collection hit Number 250, amazon had a package deal, with all of the in print titles in it. Retail for it was around $2200 - 2300. I'm sure it's probably at least double that now.

It was an incredible deal back then, if I had the money and was as serious a collector as I am now, I would have jumped on it.

Anybody know if there's an online database like Blu-ray.com's for Criterion titles? Been looking for a better way than carrying around a couple sheets of paper with me.

Oh, there's a Facebook App from criterionforums.org. Looks pretty awesome, gonna try it out.
