Agreed. I'm interested in buying the Rat, but not as much so for Cars - simply because I already have Cars (on DVD) and am somewhat reluctant to spend the extra ca$h for the "upgrade". Perhaps in time...

This is true for me as well. The Cars SD looks very good upscaled, and I had just bought it this summer. Plus, it covers the entire screen

You're missing something, CARS DVD look beyond crappy even upscaled. Racing scenes are botherline Cable TV in Quality. I always tought that it was Pixar worst DVD transfert along with Nemo (banding Ayoy!). Their best are Ratatouille, Toy Story and Incredible.. on DVD..

I was planning on doing exactly what you are thinking, but with the Disney buy two get $10 off, I got Ratatouille and Cars. There is a huge difference in cars and I have no regrets.

I'd have to agree

I saw it on a great projector as demo material in a home video store, it was nasty

I was hoping that Blu-ray would outsell HD-DVD by great margin in Q4 with all the exsclusive titles. There are still som great ones left, Die Hard, Pirates and Simpsons but I don't think any of them will do much better than 70:30.
HD DVD will also do very well the week of the Bourne release (probably the best film of the summer). Depending on how the Potter sales split that week it will be a very close one.

I'm sure even the BDA realise player price is important, even Sony reduced the price of the PS3.

We're not talking cutting $300+ off a player, but a nice $100-$150 on soon the be outdated 1.0 players.

Isn't the new 1.1 Panasonic $499, so how can anything more than $349 be justified for early 1.0 players, they're simply not value for money, especially with the 1.1 capable PS3 at $399.

Personally speaking, the PS3 or Panasonic are the only players I'd consider, 1.0 players are in no mans land.

Thirded. I saw Cars upscaled DVD as demo material in a "premium" theatre room using a Runco RS-1100 on a 110" screen, and it looked awful. This is one of the main reasons I did not buy Cars on DVD. I did recently see it in HD on DirecTV (can't remember which channel), and it looked pretty good. Still, the BD is leaps and bounds above any other version that I have seen.

I kind of agree with you, but I have an alterior motive... by waiting for the UK release you can get their version of cars where the voice of the police car (burt reynolds in the USA) was voiced by Jeremy Clarkson from "Top Gear" on BBC... I look at it not so much as an upgrade, as getting a slightly different version of the movie

i think its time sony went all out on plugging the ps3 as a bd machine, get a disk in each box that has games and demos on, worked well enough with the ps1 and ps2, when i got my ps3 there was no disk in the box of any sort.

Here's a tactic that may increase BD sales. Apart from giving people with PS3s BDs (or if you're rich enough a BD player and some BDs), TELL your friends and family that if they can afford it, they should give you BDs (from a list you give them). This way, they are not buying it for themselves but are buying it for you. And of course, when they come over, you can demo them just how great that gift is.

65:35 ain't bad. We'll see better results starting end of November.

Folks on engadethd.com are proclaiming HD-DVD victory because they only lost by 65:35, compared to last weeks 71:29.

I mean, how can they proclaim a victory when the year-to-date number actually increased in BD's favor?

Wow.

65:35 ain't bad at all, considering the most anticipated release of the year only got HD DVD 49% of the market.

It's pretty sad when 65:35 could be considered a victory for HD DVD, even though many of us were hoping for high 70's or beyond today.

Over the last two weeks though the SI and YTD numbers went up one point each.

With all the neutral releases, Die Hard, The Simpsons, Pirates 3, Spidey 3, Ratatouille, Superbad, etc., on store shelves throughout the Christmas season, it's going to be good news all around come CES 2008.

I see the BD-P1400 is down to $339.99 on Amazon - this is a dts-MA bitstream unit!!

The hardware is starting - watch for it because a number of the 1.0 players will follow this trend in December.

You've got that right - the upgrade in audio alone to 24-bit PCM is worth the buy.

Overall this is pretty disappointing to me. I was hoping that by the end of the 4th quarter we would be nearing 3:1 or 4:1. Most seem impossible now. It's just the way the HD market is now because of a number of factors I guess.

The Dec 4th week could move the YTD points by two or three alone.

Agreed with that.

I doubt Warner is going to go Blu exclusive at ces if this crap keeps up any longer.

They HD-DVD camp would only need to hold another 4 or 5 firesales to essentially catch up or even surpass the Blu side in movie sales(Here in the US). It’s something that I could see Toshiba doing.

More power to them if they have the stomach to do what needs to be done to win this war. I would rather see a winning HD-DVD side than two useless niche movie formats.

Blu has always had the momentum but I just don’t think the BDA has it in them anymore.

Every War has its Squirmishes!

This is just a little delay in what is inevitable.

Just stick to your plans and Spend Blu!!!

There has been more Blu-ray ads than HD-DUD ads.

HD-DUD backers I feel were expecting more!

65:35 is a Win for Blu-ray

If it was 59:41 then I would be a bit worried.

I can't wait to get...

You give up too easily. I definitely do NOT want to see HD DVD thrive or even survive. The storage/bandwidth limitations are crippling HD DVD PQ/SQ IMHO.
