Default The importance of Potter

I know that there are many posts out there for the Harry Potter releases, but just a few thoughts.
So far in head to head releases Blu has always won with no issues, but none are quite as important as the release of Harry Potter.
I know if I were Warner it would be the test I would use, and I am sure many agree.
Same releases on both formats on the same day, probably the biggest release of the holidays.

I know myself, I am planning on getting them seperately and then probably doing the boxed set after the final movie is released.
Which way are others going?

I am going with separate and getting the others separate later too, I'm not a big fan of all-in-one box sets and I also don't care about extras.

The box set looks like a lot of work just to watch a movie, whereas the single packs you open, place disc in the player, and done....

I'm buying the box set to save money and then throwing it away and displaying the individual cases (if it is packaged that way)

I preorder all 5 in seperate cases invdividuals for same price tag on amazon. Plus 2 day shipping fee. I am not prime memeber yet. I am delay my plan to become prime member once again after went through trial back in July. (Santa Clause 3 and Blade Runner are free shipping on 2 days because I preordered long time ago when I was in trial of Prime Member).

Here is how the Potter movies rank on Amazon right now.

the 5th movie for HD DVD is a combo which hurts Blu I think. It's 200 spots higher for HD DVD.

The first - fourth are all WAY higher for Blu. (thousands)

The boxset is 55 spots higher in Blu.

I think we'll win all but the 5th movie due to the combo version.

If you order direct from Warner, you're not saving any money on the box set. Well maybe a couple of bucks, but they both come out to 80-something dollars if you use the discount code.

I originally ordered the box set, but I called Warner Cust Service the other day, cancelled it, and then went back on-line and ordered the titles individually. They told me that their shipping problems have been fixed, but we'll see.

This brings up an interesting question. Do orders from Warner get counted in the Neilsens?

oooo, that's going to be a tough one. same release date same prices. We all REALLY need to buy these. Does anyone know how long they'll let sales go before they make a final assessment? Cause I wont be able to buy them all on release, but I do expect some for Christmas and whatever I don't get for Christmas I will be buying with gift cards and Christmas money =)

I was going to get the box set too just because I thought it would be easier to have all 5 in one thing. But I think its one of those where the movies are in crappy little folders. I hate that, so now I'm going with seperates. Same price too.

Amazon ranks don't indicate much, even when there is a sale on Amazon it doesn't really cause a blip. If you ever notice, the people who buy on Amazon usually buy the two disc special editons over their single disc counterparts. We all know Spider-Man 3 single BD outsold the box set, but by looking at Amazon, one would think the 3 movie set outsold the single. In real life this never happens. Look at how high the 2 disc special editon of Order of the Phoenix is and then check out the single disc version. Even Hairspray, the special edition is way outselling the single disc version. That only happens on Amazon. I don't think we will lose on the single Order of the Phoenix, I would think the oposite. Even HD DVD people don't like the combo discs and if they are neutral supporters, many of them will choose the BD over the HD DVD because of that.

Oh yeah I am getting them individually, but not all at once since it is too close to Christmas and I have too many people to buy presents for that don't reciprocate so I can't ask for them as presents, most of them are under the age of 10 and I don't like getting movies as presents anyway since I always get them for myself so its not like it is getting anything special.

Separate might help with the Nielsons but it doesn't make a difference to Warner, who knows that one sku of the boxset=5 movies.

That said I'll get them individually... last thing I want is a box set that only fits 5 out of the 7 films lol. Plus initially I won't replace the first three which I own on DVD, for cost reasons (so many BDs coming out!)

I ordered these the first day they were available on Warner's site (except for OOTP, which I haven't seen and will be picking up at a midnight sale) with the 25% off. I couldn't deal with the inconsistency in packaging that would come with the box set, and for the same price for the individuals, I don't feel like I'm missing any extras. I've read the books, that's as much extra as I need.

Cool

I've personally stated the importance of the Potter series in another thread, and I'll say it again. If Warner is deciding whether to go exclusive to one format, these movies will be test, IMO. The numbers for these titles will be watched VERY closely. I've never seen any of these, but now that they're all hitting bluray it's the perfect time to become a Potter fan.

Here's to hoping Warner gets a lot of blu love in the next couple months.

What I don't like about buying the whole box is if they make another sequel (Potter has 2 more movies), you'll end up having 5 as a set and 2 sitting separately. Same thing for Spidey if they go on to 4 and/or more. This is not really important if you just watch the movies, but for those who mind the "presentation" of their home movie collection, it's a big deal.

The others, especially 3-5, are leagues beyond the first two in terms of quality and special effects. Don't get me wrong: the first two were good, but the next three were SPECTACULAR.
