BD sales as a % of total video movie sales was about 8% in 2008 when the first Predator BD was released. It is about twice that today:

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/09...video-market/1

http://www.digital-digest.com/blog/D...play-may-2010/

The videophiles / Film enthusiasts/( Use your own descriptive) are a smaller subset of the market for BDs today than in 2008. That will continue to be the case in the future. Studios and equipment manufacturers are intent on broadening the market.

Its O.K. that you like the 2008 version. Its O.K. that I like the UHE. There are far more people that feel the way I do. They are just not contributing to this thread and may not know that Blu-ray.com exists. As for those that like neither.... Good luck with that.

One last word about the director's intent. The overarching intent of the director was to create a movie that people found entertaining. The more, the merrier. This wasn't The Thin Red Line. It was a riproaring popcorn movie.

And with a couple word changes, in a nutshell of what the argument was in the late 90's with DVD. Except this time we don't have another version with the same extras to choose.

Got any proof of that? Any polls anywhere that say anything close to what you're pushing? Because frankly, I don't see any way you could say that other than wishful thinking. I would go so far as to say the people who want to see Speed Racer are the smaller subset. 17k sales is not exactly a groundswell of support. Especially when you consider there was no competing release and a movie ticket was slapped on the case. Sounds to me like Predator itself was what the people were buying, not the DNR. Which is what I said earlier. If they had added the extras and slapped a ticket on the 2008 release, sales would have probably been roughly the same.

so much complaining. yeesh, who cares? they both have there pros and cons.

first off, the detail is NOT gone. for a movie this old, im very impressed with what they were able to accomplish. sure there are some scenes where the actors look a little waxy, mainly in the begining, but the colors are 90% more vibrant, the picture is so crisp and this is defiently the best the movie have ever looked. i dont understand all the hate. personally on a bluray disc i cant STAND grain. to me thats not how a movie should look on a bluray dvd. sure, perhaps a little bit of detail on certain areas was sacrificed, but i much prefer the lush look of the film and the crisp clarity compared to the other version. all that grain made the movie look older then it is and was a total eyesore. im so glad they cleaned it up, now its a joy to watch.

See you'll always have people who blindly buy any new version or someone looking to buy Predator for the first time sees a shiny new package and automatically chooses it without researching. But then you'll have plenty of people who are very serious about their films and pass so they're are plenty of lost sales there. Maybe you should try and find global sales of the 2008 version and compare to the UHE before trying to make a statement like that.

If they had added the extras and slapped a ticket on the 2008 release, sales would have probably been roughly the same -rob71

Indeed.

With the Movie Money program, don't you have to exchange a slip of paper at the box office for the discounted ticket?

I like this new trend of offering up several movies from the same studio. I got one from Sony that's good for Salt, Eat Pray Love, or The Other Guys.

Just remembered why I thought Predator 2008 was labeled Collector's Edition.

Never owned it, just rented it from Netflix in 2008. If you check the netflix listing, it is "Predator Collector's Edition available in DVD and Blu-ray.

Probably because the 2008 BD version uses the same master that was used on the two disc Predator Collector's Edition DVD that was released in 2004.

O.K. Given the high cost of equipment and the 5 % market share that Blu-ray held in 2008 and the HD-DVD/Blu-ray format war, the discounted price of Predator 2008 $24.99 vs the low cost of equipment today and a 15% BD market share. The discounted cost of UHE today is $13.99. The vast majority of people buying Predator 2008 in 2008 were videophiles/film enthusiasts.

Its not rocket science.

I wonder if this will be going until the Predator UHE/Predators box set is released. Nah, everyone will be over in the Alien Quadrilogy thread arguing about

20th Century Fox claims that the four Alien films have been "reinvigorated for an intense Blu-ray high-definition viewing experience."

If that means new masters and/or restorations with no DNR then I am already buying the set.

Reinvigorated does not necessarily mean washed of all detail.

Right. If the Youtube videos are any indication, the grain and the detail are intact.

Blu-ray is still not completely mainstream (ask most wives and girlfriends if they care about High Def).
Have you done a poll or read a poll? Or are you simply talking about your personal experience?

Check out the weekly revenue chart in post # 3. Blu-ray has a long way to go in eclipsing dvd.

And on the subject of the ladies

Youtube video is almost as useless as screencaps. Wait til you've watched the BD with your own eyes on your display.

I understand that; I have used the program in the past. My point is that historically you have to present the coupon at the box office when buying your ticket (one of my issues with the program is that I typically prefer to order tickets at my fave reserved seating theater online which makes Movie Money less attractive to me). So it's not clear to me how you can be PMd a code that will get you the discount in lieu of physically having the coupon.
