NCIS: Los Angeles season 1 announced for Blu-ray

It was just announced that NCIS: Los Angeles season 1 would be released on Blu-ray also. Still haven't seen any NCIS epiosdes yet but heard it's a good show.

NICE! Although I would prefer to see NCIS over this one... probably will still pick this one up though for the right price... love me some TV on BD

Awesome news. NCIS: LA is an awesome show that looks great on CBS HD. I highly recommend this. I hope this means the original NCIS comes to Blu soon too.

If there are no original NCIS on Blu coming soon, I'll be extremely happy if these have HD video and audio at least. Something is better than nothing.

Very funny and most likely accurate for the many of the male audience. (Don't get me wrong, I think she's hot too, I just happen to also like her as an actor on this show).

They're both awesome shows, as well as the show that gave us NCIS in the first place, JAG (I rented the two discs that include the NCIS pilots and I liked them and the normal JAG episodes)

Not much else revealed, except that the audio will be in DTS-HD Master Audio, 5.1 channels of it.

There was also this wording:

The two-part crossover NCIS episode that sets up NCIS: Los Angeles will be included which marks the first showing from the original NCIS to appear on Blu-ray.

I didn't think Paramount was going to screw us and put the NCIS crossover in SD, but that was comforting to hear. I don't think they would go to the trouble of pointing out that this was the original NCIS' first appearance on Blu and not go to the trouble of giving a HD version, since I saw those episodes specifically on USA HD in excellent HD, as well as episodes from the first season also in excellent HD. I'm also hoping for loseless audio for the crossover episodes. However, since I love NCIS: LA, a few missteps for the pilot episodes is not going to kill this for me. Still can't wait for this, for all the episodes.

That's fine. I just like NCIS better, that's all. Why didn't Blu-Ray.com report NCIS: LA in the news section or put it in the database.

Do you think the NCIS episodes on the LA set will have loseless audio? Not if you know, but what do you think. I saw on the DVD breakdown that of the four episodes on disc 1, two will be LA and two will be the pilot. I know, that doesn't tell about the Blu-Ray, but it gives me some hope that the original NCIS' Blu-Ray debut will equal LA's. Again, what do you guys think?

Just a thought. We're not sure if the original NCIS episodes will have loseless audio on the LA set (if you don't care, sorry to waste your time ). I think there's a clue. Star Trek Season 2 had the two Tribble episodes from different series. They both had loseless audio, aka: the only thing other than the episode itself that kept the DS9 episode from being a waste.

Why am I mentioning Star Trek on a topic board for NCIS? Both were/will be released by Paramount/CBS. That might show that the original NCIS episodes will have loseless audio.

More evidence that proves the theory: NCIS LA will have 24 episodes, not counting the two NCIS episodes, while Star Trek S2 had 26 episodes, also not counting the two extra episodes.

Evidence that turns my theory into monkey droppings: the fact Star Trek had 7 discs compared to NCIS' 5 discs.

What do you guys think?

At the bottom of the list of special features, of which one is called "Spinoff Episodes From NCIS Season 6", it says "Special Features are presented in Standard Definition".

While that's okay for the other special features, I really hope they don't pull that on the NCIS episodes. Hopefully, the NCIS episodes will still be HD, but I'm a little worried though. I would still buy this set, since LA rocks and looks great on CBS HD, but it would still be disappointing, since NCIS looks great in HD (even it's own pilot episodes on JAG, which are about 7 years older) and there's no Blu-Ray releases for the show itself, so I'm hoping I'm misinterpreting the back of the box or lumping the episodes into the special features area when the makers are going to lump them with the other episodes.

I just received our screener copy and am currently plowing through the discs. The NCIS Spin-Off episodes are included in the "Episodes" menu alongside their corresponding NCIS: Los Angeles episodes (a nice touch I think), and are presented in high definition with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound. Their VC-1 transfers and lossless mixes are comparable to the official LA episodes as well.

They might be listed as special features, but nothing about their inclusion or presentation suggests they've been treated as such

If there's a small earthshake, hopefully no damage or injuries, that's me going "YYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!" . Not only did you answer the question I had about this set ever since it was announced, as my posts (on several sites ) will show , you also just told me there will be a Blu-Ray review soon. Excellent review. When you said the NCIS episodes were comparable to the LA episodes, I wanted to ask "So how are the LA episodes?" but I decided I wanted to wait so there's still a surprise. Great review and thanks again for answering my question.

I'm a big NCIS fan, but have been pretty disappointed with the quality of the image (shoddy focus, odd color temperature) and would probably not bother with it on Blu ray, unless the same price as the DVD.

Does NCIS LA suffer from obvious image issues even at SD?
