To speak bluntly, I think you're one weird dude when you say you only want to watch movies with box office success and stay away from old movies.

I never once ever ever said anything remotely close to that. I might of mentioned i view movies that are big in the Box Office because of word of mouth but thats it.

Just note even if that was the case, i still would be a average viewer and there's nothing wrong with that. I hope you dont think you're special because you watch films that aren't big in name or gossip.

I was a bit indifferent about the book when I read it a few months ago, and I'm even more indifferent about the film. I really don't think Scorsese handled the material that well--the pacing and mood were off.

I'll be honest--I have absolutely zero clue why people think the ending is ambiguous--it's not. It wasn't in the book, and although a slight change was made here, the movie is not.


Book:

[Show spoiler]The whole thing is a last ditch effort at saving Daniels. The book ends with Ruffalo's character shaking his head on the steps, acknowledging that Daniels reverted back to his delusions.

Movie:

[Show spoiler]The whole thing is a last ditch effort at saving Daniels. The film ends with Ruffalo's character shaking his head on the steps, acknowledgin that Daniels reverted to his delusions. He then goes and gets a transorbital lobotomy in the lighthouse, which is not something that happens in the book. The book makes it clear that the doctors were trying to help Daniels and that they didn't resort to those practices.

Overall, it's a decent film but the source material hampers it from being anything more than decent. Mystic River is a far superior film and book by the author.

I'm not sure how that's necessary, let alone accurate. Squid is one of the most enjoyable ppl to discuss film with on the entire sight and he is rarely anything other than respectful.

What four Oscars do you predict it will win? My guess, without having seen it, is that it'll do pretty well in the technical categories but that's it. A bit unfair to make that prediction, but there it is.


Have you seen 8 1/2? You do realize it's ranked the 5th greatest film of all-time? Inception will never even come close to approaching that accolade, sorry.
