I was praying for a Cloverfield sequel too

but I have to admit this will probably be an outstanding movie.....The only thing I'm unsure about is SS being attached to it. It seems like over time his movies have gotten less and less interesting. Munich (which was way out of left field) was his last movie I LOVED. War of the Worlds, while beautiful, was a little bland for me. I hope he takes care of the special effects and lets JJ do his thing

I haven't seen Lost, but between Star Trek (2009), Fringe, and Cloverfield, I'm sure JJ won't let us down on Super 8.

I saw the trailer yesterday.

I thought it would be filmed Super 8 style but it wasn't.

I have a feeling it will be a mix of both.

The strange part is that no previous acting experience is necessary and no film title, director or production company is listed.

I have a suspicious feeling this open casting call might be for the Steven Spielberg-produced JJ Abrams-directed Super 8. (you can read more about Super 8 here, or watch the teaser trailer here). Super 8 supposedly has something to do with “the possibility that a group of kids in 1979 are playing around making movies with their Super 8 cameras (as Abrams and Spielberg did as kids) and accidentally capture something … sinister, on film.”

All three roles (two boys and one girl) are aged 13-14, and must have “a Midwestern feel.” One of the acting sides provided involves one of the characters learning that his parents are getting a divorce. Super 8 is supposed to be a homage to the early Amblin Spielberg films. And you you may recall, E.T. was based on an imaginary friend Spielberg created after his parents’ divorce in 1960. The pieces seem to fit, don’t they? Or maybe I’m just reading too much into this…

Read the casting information:

Seeking 13-14 year old Boys & Girls for the lead roles in a new Paramount feature film. No previous acting experience is necessary, but must have great energy and a wonderful sense of humor and thoughtfulness.

JOSH: Male 13-14. Josh is cute, but could be on the scrawny side – definitely not the school jock. Loveable, empathetic, smart and interesting. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.

COLLIN: Male 13-14. Slightly, or more than slightly, overweight. Collin is confident, driven, optimistic and a natural leader. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.

NATALIE: Female 13-14. A natural beauty – she is stunning, but not the “cheerleader” type. Strong and confident, but has an underlying sadness. Should have a Midwestern feel.

I just caught JJ saying it starts filming in Setember, and it most certainly won't be in 3D!

I wonder why? Personally, I am done with 3D, but I am surprised at the choice.

I see i was assuming it was. Well that kind of sucks because i like those hand cam movies. On the other hand JJ makes amazing movies and shows so this will be good i bet.

Unfortunately most people still look at handicam movies as a gimmick instead of a legit way to tell a story. I'm with you though. Blair Witch and Cloverfield are 2 of my favorite movies.
