Yeah, Comic Con was a total bust as far as anything new is concerned.

2010 = 90% bust as far as Blu Ray titles. It absolutely amazes me how studios shoot themselves in the foot. Format war, DNR or crappy master on some titles, with-holding catalog. Total joke.

At this point in DVD, we had a lot more good titles and momentum.

Oh well...it's quite possible the number of Blu-rays I am interested in & subsequently buy this year will be down over 75%...

It makes you wonder how much profit there is in Blu-ray with the cost of completely remastering their titles since they've found that the older (5 years or so) masters aren't looking as good as they would have hoped when the "mastered in high definition" after the turn of the century.

Well Comic Con has definitely evolved into something that it was probably never intended to be. I do wonder how much of it is actually devoted to "comics" now.

As for 2010 being a 90% failure, I'd have to disagree. We are getting Alien Anthology and Back to the Future which are both pretty big deals. If those two don't interest you then I can understand your disappointment. Beyond those two there isn't much. But most of the holiday films have yet to be announced I'm sure.

Personally, I'm more disappointed in the lack of PS3 exclusive holiday games. Gran Turismo 5 and LittleBigPlanet 2 mean nothing to me.

As for Star Wars coming next year, my feeling is that it will be pushed back to 2012 to coincide with the 35th Anniversary and that Indy will come next year since it will be the 30th anniversary of the first film. Just a gut feeling.

My thoughts too. Seems to make the most sense.

Also, in 1-2 years there will be an even bigger Blu-ray player base which we know Lucas likes.

I don't disagree, but this is why I say 90% bust. The fact is that this was supposed to be the start of the flood gates for catalog titles. With the exception of a few you note, plus Saving Private Ryan and a few others...2010 is mainly a joke.

I would love to see the number of releases broken down by studio by year...

There is still plenty of time for holiday titles to get announced. But I've come to grips that expecting a Lucasfilm title to get announced for bluray is usually a set up for major disappointment. When it comes to Lucasfilm, its only official when it's official.

I feel weird cuz normally Im the biggest critic of studios not releasing enough titles, but I am pleased that we are getting both Alien and BTTF and Im hard pressed to ask for much more. Studios can't risk crowding the shelves. Props to Universal and Fox for making their announcements early.

Don't assume that you've seen everything

Studios always have an anchor catalog title, and that's what gets announced early

Until catalog title sales pick up in general, flooding level isn't going to be reached, but there will be lots and solid titles

Plus Bill was hinting that the studios are concentrating more on quality and not quantity. Alien Anthology and BTTF (hopefuly) are reflective of this approach. Really thats what we all want and we will all be better because of it.

Real Genius isn't on that list. Because of that 2010 is an epic fail.

All kidding aside, thats a pretty good list and remember there will be more titles that get announced. So far October 26th is the day and November and early December have traditionally been GREAT months for new releases. I have a feeling that there are a couple of more surprises waiting.

It's not an entire bust, but I think some of us were hoping for Indy 1-3 this fall, which isn't going to happen. It's kinda disappointing, since this was going to be released at the same time as KOTCS if I remember right, but was pulled late by Lucas/SS due to quality issues. 2 yrs later - nothing. Like I said, I could be WAAAAYYY wrong about this...

It was also mentioned early last year in a Lucasfilm presentation. Thats why so many people expected it last year. But like I said, at this point holding back for the 30th Anniversary of Raiders (2011) makes most sense.

So I'm not high! Agreed, it does make sense, but there's that SW rumor. And if that SW rumor (fall 2011) pans out, I just don't see Lucas releasing BOTH SW and Indy the same year. Other than KOTCS (possibly influenced more by SS), all we've got from Lucasfilm on blu up to this point is The Clone Wars. Well, and Labyrinth....

I'm referring to the EE's that didn't get released this year, so for many of us, LOTR didn't actually get released yet.

I left that one off my list on purpose-- knew I'd get flack about the PQ quality and the fact thet they eren't the directors cuts

I was perfectly happy with the release for me-- I'm not a huge fan of the series like so many

Out of africa was released, which had never been available on DVD either. How often can we expect that to happen on a catalog release?
