well.... just remember if youre going to go around using this, don't be upset when someone says Pair0dimes also.

no worries, I hadn't planned on using it, it just resonates with me is all.

And people using terms like Pair0dimes doesn't really bother me either. To each his own...

That's just like this other guy on here actually uses a Sony STR-DG920.... wait that's you! I guess it fits though since Sony's aren't very trendy on here.

OMG, you're so hillarious.

nope the Sony receivers aren't all that trendy are they... everyone runs from them to something else.

funny everyone wants to rag on Sony, even though the bench test shows better power numbers(60 wpc) then Pioneer(31 wpc), and Yamaha(42 wpc) and the onkyos are believed to be about 60% of its power ratings so say (54 wpc) for the 60X series....

Its OK tho, I have had this receiver for 3 years or so now, so I guess it wasn't a bad purchase since I didn't know 1/3 of what I know now, and it turned out to be better then the Yamaha I was about to buy. BUT we all have to start somewhere right? I started with Sony, you have Pair0dimes, we both still have time to right our wrongs!

Wow been gone for a week - a lotta action in here.. just finished speed reading through most of it. I don't consider other speaker recommendations in the thread offensive but I think we should make a dedicated general thread for that kind of stuff for others that may not like it in the owners thread. I do notice a lot of Totem/Dynaudio talk lately not just in this thread but I also visit the Energy thread every now and then to see if there's any news on an upcoming RC line and it's going on a lot more in there. I will say for anyone looking to read about Energy stuff and seeing all the talk about other speakers you'd have to ask why it's not being posted in the Totem or Dynaudio thread.. or other brands thread.

Paradigm does seem to be growing fast on this forum. When I purchased my Speakers last April the Studios had just come out and the only one on this site that owned them was KCWolfpck. I wasn't following a trend and not trying to start a trend by always posting how happy I was with them - just sharing my experience. Emotiva and oppo BDP's also seem to be "trendy" and I've read others negative comments on Emotiva that have never heard their stuff(even have a special thread for that). I don't see noone hating on oppo though which has also become very popular. I have had my emo since January 09(I think the 2nd on the site to own an XPA-3 after Uberbot) and I am very happy with it - same with the oppo - was a beta tester before it was released to the public and have no complaints. It just seems that Paradigms getting picked on cuz alot of people post in this thread and it is probably read more than others but the same thing probably happens on all speaker owner threads. I don't think I have ever said this speaker is better than that - just have shared my experiences.

Just put this on hold while I was typing to start that new thread... Go check it out and please post in there..

Sometimes we all forget it's not what you have or what name is on it, it's how much you enjoy or should enjoy what you have. We are very fortunate on this site to be able to afford what in reality is kind of a silly hobby, so maybe we should just take a step back and think about how lucky we really are. We're all just a little too critcal of this stuff and should enjoy it for what it is, entertainment. I don't feel I have any wrongs to right, I enjoy my Paradigms and that's why I bought them. I chose them over Totems as I feel they have better designs for HT, mainly the center channel and surround speakers. Maybe you should listen to some of the v5 studio's and you might hear why we all like them. They sound really good with NAD electronics.

ok, well thanks for bringing it back to a civil conversation. For the record, John(fors) and I have known each other for about 2 yrs now and he knows I would never actually put down him or his stuff, and I am sure if he felt that way he would PM me or Text Message me about it.

Look, I personally don't care what the name on the front of a speaker, receiver, cdp, bdp, cables, hdtv, or hd satelite/cable receiver. As you said, in reality this is a silly hobby that we over think it, we should just enjoy it for what it is, entertainment.

What matters in reality is do WE, love the sound that WE are getting from OUR OWN system. I really hope you love your system, I really enjoy mine, yes there are things I plan to do to improve my system, BTW, replacing the Sony with an Anthem MRX500 is one thing I am hoping todo this Spring. However, I live with 2 kids, 1 on the way and a stay at home wife, so I cannot just go out and add whatever I want when the mood strikes, I have been buying one upgraded item a year, this past year a new sub, and hopefully a new AVR this spring that if everything stays the same I will be getting.

I would love to hear the v.5 series, I hear they are better then the v.4....

I just read you ragging on somebody about Sony and I thought hey wait second doesn't he have... Sorry if it was taken the wrong way. I've been saving for an amp and took a little hit lately, our basement reno has been a nightmare. So I'll have to wait a bit longer for an amp, I'm thinking of either the Nad t975 or the M25. I was also thinking of getting the Anthem and just using it as a pro because the Nad pro's don't really look that great. Who knows I'll problably change my mind before the time comes. I think the Anthem would be a solid choice for you.Alot of people compare the v5's to the Sig v1's, I've never heard the v1 Sigs so I can't comment.

It's all good fun guys....like callas said, I've known him for a while, and we know where each other stands, so we do give each other a hard time at times, but all out of good fun. Silly hobby or not, I enjoy it and it keeps me home with my family, who can enjoy it with me as well, and that is what it really is all about....quality time with the family, isn't it?

Well I finally got to watch a movie with my new speakers. Nothing is calibrated yet besides level matching everything. In one word AWESOME!!!! It was the first time in a long time where I didn't have to fiddle with the center channel volume. Everything in the front sound stage was perfect. The 20s seemed to have disappeared in the room and only left the music behind. The 4 Monitor Audios did there job and I wasn't able to localize any of them. I can't wait to actually sit down and calibrate everything properly. Going to have to wait another month or so before I get that kind of time. My SVS subs though sounded like crap. That's all my fault. Still have the settings for the Velodyne in my BFD1124 so that's the reason. Clash of the Titans sounded wonderful and I can't wait to pop in Transformers 2 :-)

Interesting little article about Paradigm selling only through AV shops.

Link

The one line that got me was the "The executives also said the company plans to unveil "new, exciting products" in the coming months."

I can see you know....hiding behind the dumpster in the back, waiting for a delivery so you can sneak your way past the receiving manager and grab a Paradigm logo'd shirt, so you can blend in and further infiltrate their production plans.

Or they might just say...."that creepy guy is peaking in thru the window again, what should we do this time?"
