Default Let this happen very quickly !

Mass production begins
THE SHORTAGE of blue laser diodes which has hamstrung the development of Blu-ray and HD-DVD might be coming to an end.
Sharp has begun mass production of blue-laser diodes at a new factory in Japan. According to Digitmag, Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD player costs have been kept high because of the shortage of the blue laser diodes. This has prevented the market from developing as the take up on players has been restricted by high prices.
A spokesSharp said that the new line at its factory in Mihama, Hiroshima prefecture will produce 150,000 diodes a month. Later in 2007 it will increase this to 500,000 diodes per month and also begin making higher power models for use in disk writers.

WE all are praying for this and waiting for 200-300$ burners as quckly as possible ! Go on SHARP !
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Few companies make the diodes and the addition of Sharp's output to the market could bring down prices.

I don't know (and frankly don't care at all) about standalone palyers - whther it goes HD or BD way. But as far as higher power models concerned I hope all goes to BD PC drive devices so we can get those faster and cheaper mounted in our PCs and then burning all around in blue flames !

Majority of initial production should probably cater more to Blu-ray than to HD-DVD (since Sharp is a member of the BDA)
