Is there a Region Free 3D Blu-ray player?

Well my current blu-ray player is no more than 1 year.. I was going to buy a region free player to watch those Region A movie but now...

Now they forced us to buy the new blu-ray 3D player. I was wonder if there is any region free 3D player available out there? It doesn't matter the price.

According to someone I met in PCWorld here Ireland all HDMI 1.3 will work with 3D Blu-ray players.......Not sure if I believe him but if true it means there's no need to fork out a small fortune on 1.4 cables. Has anyone seen how expensive these are??

As for region-free 3D players goes I also hear patches are avaliable

Before stating that you may have to fork out a small fortune on "1.4 cables; please check:

So your link seems to support what the chap in PC world said, which means no need to buy the expensive 1.4 cables. Brilliant! But why would they bring out expensive 1.4 cables if there doesn't appear a need for them??

That Chap is 'half' right. Only 1.3a (not 1.3 cables) cables, or so called 'high speed' cables, can handle the bandwidth of 3D. Since the introduction of 1.4, the HDMI organisation would like to get rid of these numbers when adressing compatibility. Instead, they now refer to their capabilities and therefore refer to them as 'high speed' and/or 'return audio signal' and/or 'ethernet capable'. This is all A.F.A.I.K.

Yes, for 3D in FULL 1920x1080p or 1920x1080/60i (not 22p, not 24i or 30i interlaced, not 720p, not 1440x1080p) you will need a BD-player with HDMI 1.4. Mind you, Sony 'says' the PS3 with 1.3a will include the 3D-option later this year, but we have not seen any specs/proof yet. We'll have to wait and see for that.

Conclusion, players with a 1.3 output (hardware) CANNOT accommodate 'full' 3D, only a crippled version (IF/when they release software to do so), therefore, you currently need a 3D BD-player for that. BlurayMods.com told me that they are thinking of releasing a region-free mod for the Panny's later this year, so you might want to pick up the BDT-300 (most likely to be the first one to be modded).

Edit: I just saw that JVBDigital.com have a new mod for Sony's 3D BD-player S470 for $269 installed by them (plus the player).

According to all the Sony, Samsung and Panasonic reps at our training for Magnolia, and according to nearly every one I've spoken to with any expertise on the matter, Any Blu-ray player capable of decoding MVC (multi-view codec) and sporting an HDMI 1.3a output is capable of outputting 1080p 24fps or 720p 30fps. Since films are encoded as 1080p 24fps, and most video is shot at 720p 30fps this is a non-issue.

So theoretically, Sony only needs to update the software on the PS3 so that it can do two things...add playback capability of the Multi-view codec, and interface (or "handshake") properly with HDMI 3D compatible devices correctly.

in my experience with the Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, LG and Mitsubishi (2010) models, all you need is an HDMI 1.3a (10.2gbps or higher) cable to interface properly with 3D devices. If in doubt though, just find an HDMI 1.4 compliant cable.
