Its not that anyone held him back or anything happened they just have a waiting period, He's met that now and boom first ballot HOFer

I know about the 5 year waiting period, but they should've made an exception for Rice

Little known fact about Emmitt Smith. He was voted the "Greatest High School Football Player of the Century" for the state of Florida. Considering the sheer amount of NFL talent Florida High Schools produce being named the all-time greatest high school player from the state is a huge accomplishment. His stats were incredible, 106 high school touchdowns?!?

Ironic thing is both his high school and college team were the Gators. And no disrespect to Tim Tebow but I still consider Emmitt the greatest Florida Gator player of all-time. Emmitt put up amazing number for UF despite playing on some very sorry teams.

Escambia High School, University of Florida and Dallas Cowboys running back great Emmitt Smith was named Player of the Century tonight by the Florida High School Athletic Association, as part of its “100 Years of Florida High School Football” celebration.

Smith, who played for Escambia from 1983-86 and led the Gators to back-to-back state championships in 1984 (Class 3A) and 1985 (Class 4A), holds the Florida high school career rushing record with 8,804 yards on a record 1,127 carries. His 45 100-plus-yard games also is a state record, and ranks second nationally. He scored 106 career touchdowns, which is third on the state’s all-time list
