I bet you $14 they won't include any new special features so they can continue to try & fool people into thinking its real until they listen to the commentary
![]() ![]() My friend actually thought this was real after seeing the movie & reading the book when it came out. I should've kept my mouth shut ![]() |

Looks like there will be some new stuff on it. But i don't see a new documentary with interviews with the cast. A bit of a bummer
The Blair Witch Project Just in time for Halloween, the viscerally frightening hit film The Blair Witch Project makes its Blu-ray Disc debut this October from Lionsgate. Set in 1994, three film students travel to the woods of Maryland to investigate an urban legend, and find themselves terrified to the core. The friends - Heather, Josh and Mike - never return from the Black Hills Forest, and one year later their missing footage is found and edited together to tell the story of the amateur filmmakers' terrifying two-day hike. Featuring four never-before-seen alternate endings, the film that caused a stir worldwide is featured for the first time in 1080P High Definition Widescreen, along with additional bonus materials that include an audio commentary, a featurette and extra footage. The Blair Witch Project garnered the 2000 Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/386...-wich-and-more |

I'm just as confused as you. I quickly checked his blu-ray owned page and thought I would see Predator UHE but he owns the original blu-ray only. So I'm at a total loss on why he would want unnatural image manipulation.
Come on now, why would you want 16X9? That's like also wanting King Kong ('33) to also be stretched to widescreen. |

I think a 16:9 presentation can happen without compromising the video release.
Wasn't it shown theatrically in a 4:3 "window-boxed" presentation? If so they've likely just cropped the top/bottom of the "window-boxing" which would still give a 4:3 image of the video (the sides of the 16:9 frame are the pillar-boxes on the print -- not player generated). Either way it's unlikely to cause any loss of the actual video frame -- just loss of the original pillar-boxing on the top/bottom of the frame in favor of the dead space above/below your television. It's still a shame cause it's not technically OAR --but I think this title has had a "confusing" issue but I doubt they'll crop the actual frame of the "filmed" images -- just the pillar-boxing on the top/bottom. |

Only $13.99 on Amazon leads me to believe that the PQ is less than impressive. Probably get a Dog Soldiers like remastering. But really I cant pick too many flaws. It super 16 like Dog Soldiers. It can only be done so well. But then again, Clerks, in my humble opinion, looks phenominal on Blu-Ray so it all depends. Ill pick it up regardless.

Releasing something like this is sort of a double edged sword. It's great for fans of the movie and fans of the Blu-ray format in general to see movies like this released. However, people on the fence about Blu-ray and those that really don't know much about movies and Blu-ray in general are going to see this and be like; "This looks like shit. Why would I want Blu-ray"?

Well, I don't mean that anyone would go out of their way to use this movie to judge Blu-ray. I was just saying that someone who doesn't know much about the format might happen to see this movie and be like, wtf?

+1 The whole point about this movie is the fact that it was supposedly a home-made video found one year after the incidents. It was shot on purpose using Hi8 camcorders (480i), besides the audio was recorded on location (bar a few sound effects). In short, the movie was intended to look and sound like an amateurish video shot in low-def. Therefore the only incentive to make the "upgrade" would be a new and nifty set of supplements plus the inclusion of the previous extras. |

The 16mm footage has potential to look significantly better on the Blu-ray disc, period. There are plenty of cases where SD video quality is the best you're going to get but this isn't one of them. There's no room for improvement on the SD footage from a resolution standpoint but that is only like half of the movie. The DVD is 11 years old. Even without the format upgrade they could probably do better with compression etc. Also, Artisan had teased a DVD-18 packed with 6 hours of extra footage of the movie to follow in the months after the initial DVD release (this was around the time of the Ultimate Edition of T2 when Artisan was pushing the DVD-18 format) that never materialized so the material is obviously there. In short, the movie was NEVER intended to look and sound like video and 16mm film encoded onto a DVD circa 1999. Last edited by GuruAskew; 08-08-2010 at 10:48 PM. |

Guruaskew,
well said. People underestimate just the increase in space and what that can do for noise and compression. Day 1 for me. 2nd the curse doc. That was nearly as frightening as the movie. Last edited by mayorofsmpleton; 08-09-2010 at 04:31 AM. |
