The Count of Monte Cristo (netflix instant)'

Film: 2 1/2 stars (out of 4)

The dialogue is oftentimes laughable. The acting is mediocre at best, and in Guy Pierce's position, pretty poor. The action scenes aren't particularly well-choreographed. There is little emotional connection or character development, which is essential to the story. It felt like a mediocre tv movie. Its only saving grace was the fact that it was still relatively entertaining.

Chungking Express (blu)

PQ: 3.5 (out of 4)

Unimpressive and the weakest I've seen from Criterion yet, although I suspect it was a difficult film to look "good."

AQ: 4 stars (out of 4)

Film: 2 1/2 stars (out of 4)

I never felt connected to the characters or either story. I never felt the internal thoughts or dialogue was real, which made it very difficult to care what was going on or to connect with it. I found the direction interesting but not effective--I think slowing things down and blurring images didn't enhance anything at all, especially with the scenes he chose to do it. I'm not sure how someone could really love this movie (as Tarantino does--big surprise), because I just don't see enough there to consider it a great film, let alone an important one. I would recommend it simply because of its interesting visual style, but beyond that I have little to recommend it on.

There's a lot, although mind ****'s aren't always psycho thrillers/thrillers. But here's some that fall within at least one of those three categories:

Primer
Triangle
Tell No One (foreign)
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (foreign)
The Orphanage (foreign)
Aliens
Apocalypto (foreign)
City of God (foreign)
Sin Nombre (foreign)
State of Play
Donnie Darko
Dial M for Murder
The Vanishing (foreign) (Criterion dvd)
Rear Window
Frailty
Cape Fear
Taxi Driver

Notice that I didn't include Memento, or Lynch films. That's because I haven't seen the former, and I haven't seen enough of the latter to recommend them. I'm sure the majority of ppl that have seen them, such as surf and squid, would have them at the top of their lists.

Mulholland Dr. is a must-see. Lost Highway and Blue Velvet are also worthy efforts.

So I started off at the beginning with the first film in the series and it was a decent film. It dragged at times but also had some good moments. It had some sexy chicks as I figure all the Bond films will have.

The film looked great on Directv so Im sure the bluray looks awesome. I think they concentrated really good on Bond films for HD tranfers. Back to the film, I also want to watch them all to see which ones are worth owning as Im sure I probably wont like every single one but who knows. So as I have said I thought this film was decent but I wouldnt buy it and I probably wouldnt watch it again. It was a decent way to start off the Bond franchise and Im sure the films will get better and better.

Film Rating - 3 stars (out of 5)

Got Em!!
Definitely a fair assessment of the film, I find Dr. No, most Bond movies actually, to be good but far from great. The 3/5 is spot on. Like most Bond films it has its cheesy moments but that is what makes them likeable in my opinion.
[Show spoiler]The fire spitting tank thing-ama-gig is quite laughable.

I have a hard time watching one man kill like 50 other guys with out so much getting a bullet in him. It's fun too watch but at the same time I'm like "No way.". But I thought it was good movie overall. I like John Travolta, he's always been a good actor to me and I think he did a pretty good job in the movie.

.
Might want to toss some spoiler tags on there.

One of you guys reccomended this based on Robert Downey Jr's performance. He was quite swell in it; thank you for the reccomendation!

As far as the movie itself goes, it was generally alright. It's a little dated, especially with its soundtrack, but it was interesting to see RDJ's character and the corruption he experiences. Some of the drama was great. Settings were very interesting. But otherwise, it felt very average to me.

3/5 (entertainment: 3/5, story: 3.5/5, film: 3/5)
That would be me. Scary how the characters demise mirrored Downeys real life melt down eh? Yikes.

If someone asked me which was better, Kill Bill or LOST, it wouldnt even be close for me.

I'd give anything to be able to erase LOST from my mind, so I could watch it all over again for the first time.

Maybe I should take a nap on a sailboat.

If youd like to explore modern noir, try Body Heat (1981). Nice and twisty and some really steamy hard "R" scenes.

You should add ALL of those. Every one is a really good experience.

But you need to get into all those Criterions you bought.

I'd say its falls between "Really like it" and "WTF IS GOING ON!?!?!" so far.

Amadeus(Netflix Stream)

Director: Milos Forman
Cast: F. Murray Abraham, Tom Hulce and Elizabeth Berridge

Won 8 Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Leading Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Makeup, Best Costume Design, Best Sound, Best Art Direction.

Film:4.5/5

A great film. I am still torn between a 5/5 and a 4.5/5 rating. I think another viewing will make that question more set in stone but I def think it deserved the win for Best Picture. The thing that stuck out to me most was the acting hands down. F. Murray Abraham did an amazing job. His character was so great. I felt for him but then I did not. You will understand that statement once you watch this film. Tom Hulce did really good also. When I first heard his laugh I laughed. It was perfect. This was def a period piece but imo it wasn't too "period pieced" if that makes sense. It seemed pretty modern to me. The story was like nothing I thought it would be going into watching this. I found the story to be interesting and something that I could watch many times again.

This is a long film, right under 3 hours, but it didn't seem that long to me. I was so focused and absorbed by the story. This film def deserved every nom and win it received.

I highly recommend everyone to check this out. You can view this through Netflix Instant Streaming if you have access and its in hd.
