From Where Do You Buy Your Blu-rays?

I'm curious

I have over 150 odd titles now (and growing) and the vast majority I source from Amazon - either UK (mostly) or the USA.

I always check the region coding for any disc I wish to source from the USA via the following website:

http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=a

The reasons are two-fold:

1) Cost - simply much cheaper than from anywhere in Australia (including the postage). It helps also to bulk-buy.

2) Availability of titles - so many of the movies that I'm interested in are simply not available in Australia.

What do others do?

I generally buy them from JB Hi-Fi, but I never pay full price. I wait until they either come down in price or there is some sort of sale.

I've bought a few off ebay too.

The Warehouse - Generally the cheapest place in New Zealand for Blu-Rays, doesn't get 'exclusive' titles that JB Hi Fi do though.
Whitcoulls - Very rarely will I buy from here, maybe once a year. Price is usually $nz10+ more than 'The Warehouse' (hense why I call it "the ten dollar more store"), sometimes they have specials that make them about $5 cheaper than The Warehouse).
Trademe.co.nz - Occasionally get a bargain on second-hand titles (such as Sarah Connor Season 1 for $20).
Amazon UK & US - If I really want to save money and just wait.

My local big w store for popular new releases when,
usually for the first week prices are low.
and Amazon.com for a few titles

I don't bother with K'mart or the local Sanity store, both charge full RRP.

Yeah, I've been a big fan of both Amazon US & UK for Blu-rays, because the savings are quite substantial - on an order of 5+ films, I can average $15 - $20.
I'm also a big fan of the thinner cases from the US
I'm also strongly considering getting my player chipped, because the list of Criterions on my wishlist just keeps growing
Recently, I have bought from JB HIFI, because they've had a number of films $20 or less.

Burn direct sell overseas DVDs and blurays.

i try to buy as many usa ones that i can, i prefer them but get local ones on sale spef under 20 bucks

The British Pound is being openly sold in joke shops. The current rate is about 0.57 GBP to the Oz Dollar, which is about half its value of a few years ago.

I've bought about 100 BRDs from these guys. Their prices start from about 6 GBP, which is about 10 AUD. Their postage rates are good too - usually 1.29 GBP per single disc, and this includes a sturdy cardboard package. They've always arrived in about a week. I've never had one arrive damaged.

I've also bought quite a few from JB Hi-Fi. BTW, they've currently got a sale on with several titles for $13 (or 2 for $20), plus many titles at $16 (including Children of Men). The $13 titles are pretty crappy, but I did pick up a few decent ones.

I chipped my player recently because I am a Criterion addict too (Barnes and Noble just had a 50% off Criterion sale, and I filled plenty of gaps in my collection). I used the Gatti-web kit from Melbourne. It works fine and was easy to install (I have a Panny, but apparently other brands are more difficult).

The price was a tad steep ($150) - for that amount you could probably buy a new player set up just for region A.

I buy my new releases from either jb or big w. I will also pick them up from Video ezy if I can't be bothered driving 40 mins to save $5. Recently I have bought from ezydvd when they have a good sale on.

I usually by my stuff from JB Hi-Fi though I have imported a few titles like Watchmen from the US because the Director's Cut wasn't available here at the time.

Most of my collection now comes from Amazon UK. I've had Blu-ray 49 orders from them in the last 8 months including some big ones like Battlestar Galactica. As many have said, I do this also due to cost. I also buy from 101cd.com (sister site of the previously mentioned dvd.co.uk), The Hut and My Memory when purchasing from the UK.

In terms of local retailers I do the following:

• Big W/JB for new releases unless the price is more than $30AU, then I will go online and buy from the UK
• Most catalogue titles have come from JB
• A handful of catalogue titles from Big W
• A handful of catalogue titles from EzyDVD
• A handful of catalogue titles from Kmart
• A handful of catalogue titles from Sanity

I haven't purchased from the last three that often as their prices are generally a fair bit higher. I know some get good deals from Kmart, but my local ones rarely have great deals.

I have also made use of US Amazon for some good deals like Watchmen DC, Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter UE's and Star Trek TOS but the orders from them are few and far between. CD Wow has also got me some good deals before (Predator 1 and 2 for $18) including my cheapest Blu-ray, Striking Distance at $5.95 delivered.

My box sets are probably 90% imports/10% local whilst my regular Amaray releases are more like 50/50 though are starting to lean more heavily to imports.
