I guess if they recorded it at the same time as the ending that can explain why it didn't air (assuming it was recorded by the end of the series)

As cool as it sounds I think it would ruin what for me was a great ending, that final scene with Jack and Vincent (and with the incredible score by Michael Giacchino) was a perfect image to close the series... I guess the epilogue makes more sense as a separate entity rather than an immediate sequence after the final shot... just a thought...

No Because Jack wasn't "Murdered" Remember Jacob threw his brother down the light tunnel as a response to his brother murdering his mother. Jack voluntarily went down the tunnel hence why he just died after saving the island.

Jack was the chosen protector of the Island. I'm fine with him not being harmed by the light. I don't think it needs more of an explanation than that.

The whole point of the testing on Desmond etc. was to show the viewers that Desmond alone had the ability to withstand the light.

Plus, take mom did warn children when gave that lame explanation of the light that going down that tunnel was worse than death. At that time neither kid has murdered anyone.

This is a very interesting and valid argument you make. Perhaps Jack couldn't have unplugged it. He was expelled after plugging the hole. My guess is Desmond is immune to the power of the light enough to stand in it, unplug the hole, and still live. Jack, if you'll remember, never actually stood in the light, it wasn't until he'd plugged the hole and fallen back that the light started to come back. In what can only be assumed as right after the light comes back, Jack is expelled.

And perhaps he didn't become the smoke monster because he was at peace with himself and about to die anyway. Jack's 2 ultimate purposes were to kill MiB and to re-kindle the light, whereas MiB was thrown into the light full of hate and wanting only vengeance, and emerged a pure manifestation of hate, destruction, and judgment.

Of course, this is all speculation, but it's what I think and it keeps me from dwelling on plot holes. I think the fans are divided between those who wanted the answers, and those who can accept blind speculation like me.

Right - Desmond could withstand the "electomagnetic, etc. etc." - as the show established by Widmore performing the tests and recalling that Desmond survived the blast in Season 2.

As far as I know - I was having a debate about what the ending showed/didn't show.

You came in here and rearranged someone words to express what you thought about certain people in this thread.

I hated the finale - and I guess I should be quiet because you and the mouse in your pocket "get that" - but I guess the people in this thread praising the finale are free to post their thoughts?

Well maybe he went into it, but yeah good point.

Agreed. They failed to mention to us that when we'd still be talking about Lost months/years later, it would be dissecting their writing and finding the errors.

Ok, I havn't posted on this thread since immediately after the finale. My initial impressions were of extreme disappointment with the way the show was ended and I made that clear on this forum.

After a couple months of reflection and viewing the finale a few more times I have to say I'm more or less content with the way it ended. Would I have liked for more question to be answered? Yes. But after much reflection I think it ended about as well as it could have. In the end the island was just an island and the people on it and the memories they shared were what mattered more than anything else. The ending was touching and quite fitting.

I highly recommend you try and catch the epilogue. It is 11 minutes long and answers a good many questions. It'll be included with the Blu-ray release later this month!
