Here's my usual plug for 3-D on Blu-ray Disc:

In that latest Stringer quote, he mentions possible future 3-D encoding on Blu-ray due to higher bandwidth.
I thought that bone would make your ears perk up.

Perhaps Blu-ray should just sit back with the mindset of “good enough” to play it safe ?

Let me see..how about "no" . "Good enough" is HD DVD remember . For one thing, such a product could be made to be backwards compatible with regular BDs - forget doing that with HD DVD. For another, not only would the standards work take a while, but there's a distinct lack of content for it. You can't exactly convert existing movies shot on film into 3D. By working with film makers from day 1 you make sure that both the capture and delivery formats match up.

The HD DVD camp have been touting their combo advantages for a while - a B3D would be Blu-ray's combo for the next format, years from now, if done right. By getting it into the standard early you'd also be able to ensure that todays players would be able to play the 2D part without issue.

It's pretty odd for a company offering products to break protection to be whining about studios making their product viable.

Where would Slysoft be if there was no protection?

Why not it worked wonders for the American auto industry after all .. and has led to billion dollar investments for a service pak to Windows XP called Vista. Sometimes the "fruits" of that thinking take time to manifest themselves..comforting to see HD DVD took the same route and will end up with the same result.

Funny but there was a time in N.A. when you were frowned upon for advocating mediocrity as something to aspire to .. now it's a "good enough" rally for an industry "leader" and pushing America into the technology backwaters - while others push ever further ahead.

I vote for doing whatever it takes to get Warner and New Line exclusively, and then not worrying about what the HD DVD fans might whine about while the Blu-ray camp makes things even better (by offering a 3D option).

They probably want the middle ground, where the copy protection is enough that others need them, but not too difficult for even them to break it. Maybe BD+ is making them sweat.

I can't understand how a company like Slysoft is allowed to operate. Aren't there INTERNATIONAL laws against piracy. They are obviously playing a part in it... I must be missing something.

When do Blu-ray supporting companies actually intend to start selling atandalones in signifcant numbers?

There appears far too much emphasis on PS3, while standalone sales, from the little we know, appear to be going through the roof on HD-DVD and, at best, levelling out on Blu-ray?

Or have I just read too many FUD article's, and in actual fact hobbled 1.0 players are flying off the shleves at $400+?

I really do respect insiders opinions, but I and other Blu-ray supporters can see with our own eyes a strong 2-1+ lead gradually being p***** away due to a quite staggering policy of not even trying to compete with HD-DVD standalone pricing with 1.0 players for this crucial Q4 period.

We also saw what happened with Paramount, this move showed NOTHING can be taken for granted, dirty tactics and a big wallet will win through against a superior product and traditional pricing model, why, because this is a down and dirty format war.

It's quite amazing Blu-ray appears incapable of landing a big, knockout blow, whether that be with a cheap player, or landing an exclusive studio.

I agree with this 100%. Why is the Blu-Ray camp just sitting there doing nothing about this? People are getting e-mails from Amazon about HD-DVD specials. HD-DVD is appearing in all the ads. They are doing some pretty clever marketing.

If Sony thinks that TV commercials are the way to get Blu-Ray supporters, think again. People who support these types of technologies have DVRs and skip commercials. In fact, I am seeing next to no Blu-Ray advertising while seeing HD-DVD advertising EVERYWHERE. It's really getting rediculous that Blu-Ray could end this thing with one big announcement, yet it ain't happening. I blame the Blu-Ray camp for prolonging this war just as much as I do HD-DVD at this point. From a simple lack of trying. And don't even get me started on Warner. I think Warner is just as bad as Paramount as they could end this format war in one big swoop. Is this the "no more Mr. Nice Guy" we were led to believe was going to happen?

Titles alone will not win this war. Sure, you need to make money, but there's a short term gain and a long term gain. HD-DVD seems to understand the latter.

As far as I'm concerned, Disney is the ONLY company doing a decent job of "getting the word out".

So, since this is an Insiders Thread, let me pose a question: When are you guys going to get your butt's in gear and start doing some CREATIVE advertising like HD-DVD is doing? It's really starting to get frustrating and I'm starting to feel like there's no reason to support EITHER side. I feel like I may have jumped in too early.

The lack of DTS-HD MA on the PS3 is one thing, but the simple fact that Sony won't even address this is just plain stupid at this point.

And I'm REALLY getting sick of this "We already won." talk. That's a bunch of BS. Two things need to happen for Blu to win: Warner needs to go Blu exclusive and Universal need to support Blu.

I'm a very big Blu supporter and I believe the technology should be enough to win this war, but I'm not stupid enough to believe that technology alone with win this war. This "we're happy with where we are in the market" attitude of the Blu camp is aweful and an insult to those of us who have invested in this format.

So please...pretty please...pretty please with sugar on top...Do something MEANINGFUL to win this war!!!

And BOGOs are NOT the answer.
They are nice but they are not even a good bandaid.
Not to mention that most people by now have all of the titles that are offered so the benefit in the numbers of movies sold gets smaller and smaller each time.

You mean like the viral videos that have thousands and thousands of youtube views?

It's been stated several times that Sony doesn't want to take the thunder away from the settop manufacturers.

DTS-HDMA is coming to PS3, just like profile 1.1/2.0 is coming. You can survive without it a little longer without ill effect

Ronin is the movie - but did Robert DeNiro say it, or Jean Reno...

I'll say it was Jean :-)

I hear you, though I think BOGO's DO help, and I am sure they are a good bandaid, there sure are a lot more movies on BD for BOGO than on DUD.

But the way the BDA and the CE companies infrastructure is setup, it's not so easy to just drop their prices at will, they have to keep their neighbors in mind. Trust me, what Toshiba is doing is desperation, and short-sighted, in the long run, this will not benefit them.

Somewhere in my head I do agree with you.
I think I just need to stop going to certain other sites and getting irritated.
I will say that you have to have remember though, HD has one buddy with very very deep pockets who has a very large stake in making sure that blu does not win.

This is easy since I just watched this movie on HD-NET Movies a few nights ago:

Ronin

Oh, and Jean Reno said the line.
