It's funny, this film has a respectable 67% on RT and was given 3 1/2 stars by Ebert, yet it's a film that I've rarely seen positively reviewed on this site. I suspect many of those who disliked it simply haven't seen Mann's films before. He's a cerebral crime director and his films don't fit the mindless shoot em ups that populate the genre. I found this film to be well-acted (despite Bale's poor accent) and very well directed. The shoot outs are well orchestrated and entertaining. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to hear about 20 minutes of dialogue in the middle due to commotion at the homefront. Thus, I felt I had to give the film 3 stars, although I suspect I will bump it to 3 1/2 on second viewing. Of course, it's not as good as Heat, The Insider, or Collateral. It's still an impressive effort.
I liked this film. I think it is vastly superior to Bonnie and Clyde which is widely acclaimed.

Watched “Charlie’s Angels.”

Absurd, goofy, silly, campy, over-the-top, excessive, hyper…I must be mad to rate this above a 3, mad I tell you!!!

But the truth is, this is the sixth time I’ve seen this film, and now it’s getting to the point where I could memorize every scene shot-by-shot, every line, and pick out subtle details in the backgrounds (which is now even more fun in high-def). Why oh why?

There are a few good reasons why I enjoy this film that much. First of all, it’s insanely fun. I know some of the comedy is (almost embarrassingly) dumb, but some of it still makes me chuckle. Action scenes totally rock. The chicks are hot. The film is very fast-paced, and it is loaded with a huge amount of tightly-composed scenes in a short 95 minutes. There’s hardly a dull moment.

Secondly, I enjoy the story. I know it’s not 100% original or deep or anything, but I do like the fact that the story wound up revolving around Charlie himself. Everything else maintained a decent-enough sense of mystery. The characters are likable.

Thirdly, the film is very well-made. Production value is very high. In fact, I love the fact that every scene is something new; each set has a color scheme, and they cycle through countless costumes (I half-wonder if they raided a pile of unwanted costumes or something). Acting is excellent for what it’s supposed to be. Cameramanship is very interesting. The only really bad thing I see is that the music changes so much it gets distracting; they must have used 200 songs in this movie!

So there you have it; excellent entertainment value, a passable story, and a good-quality film (by blockbuster popcorn-movie standards anyway).

And the Chad is great…

4/5 (entertainment: 5/5, story: 3.5/5, film: 4/5)

This Blu-Ray is a good deal. The video quality is decently sharp and detailed. Some shots are a bit soft, and some scenes do show video noise, but otherwise it almost looks perfect. Colors are very vibrant (almost too much I wonder), and contrast is good. Sound quality is good, if not loud; I think I did notice additional voices, sounds, and music I never noticed before.

PQ: 4/5, AQ: 4/5

I love it.

Whats up with Sony though? They keep putting out the #1 film of a series but dont release the others.

I know!

Which is strange, because I thought "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" was rumored first for BD. I guess I'm glad the first film came out first, but the second one would make me feel whole again (as would "Ghostbusters 2" and "MIB II").

Obv I disagree with his rating, but read the review: he didn't like that the film trivialized, in his opinion, murder and rape of a child. I wrote a response to it weeks ago. He missed the point, but if you think the movie did that then it's easy to see why he gave it the rating he did.

Yeah i guess we just like it because its ratings is pretty low on IMDB. I gave the movie a 4.5/5. I thought i was unique and made you look at death in a different aspect. Especially someone that dies young.

Vivre Sa Vie (Criterion)

How do i start off with this film? Well first off the Cinematography was amazing, its crazy how a little direction can bring out the beauties of a film. So Bravo to the french dude
[Show spoiler]Jean-Luc Godard lol
.

I really enjoyed this film. It wasn't anything i expected but i still liked it. A woman that is so into her self that she's blinded by so many other things, especially love. It was said how she became a prostitute in the pursuit to become a movie star. It was extremely sad how
[Show spoiler]the man she thought cared about her turned her into a tramp and ultimately leading her to her own bloody murder
. Very touching film, and it got serious once she met the philosopher. He had me thinking about life in a different way for a moment. Once she finally figured out herself and what see really wanted in life it
[Show spoiler]ended that quickly. Pretty damn sad

On another note i think that this film is great in all but its a chick flix. Im not saying anything bad about chick flix's because enjoy a few like The Notebook. Overall the movie was worth watching and im looking forward to watching it again because i know there's things i missed. Recommended

4/5

completely agree-- this was one of the most "fun" movies of the past decade-- I really enjoyed every minute of it and recently upgraded my superbit dvd to the blu-ray which I just watched a couple of nights ago--
4/5 (I must be mad as well but I don't care!)
