Tales from Earthsea 4/5

Not as good as top Studio Ghibli titles such as Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Spirited Away, or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, but still good.

Directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son, Goro, and adapted from the Ursula Le Guin novels, this still manages to capture the Ghibli feel. Scenes that require time to develop are given it. There's a sense of honor present and the main character's are likeable.

If anything, they probably take it more seriously than I do, as they are more critical viewers, and they do like many quality films. They usually are quick to point out stuff that's unrealistic or dumb (which could be virtually all films, jeez ).

I know I have a very broad taste, and will inherently enjoy all sorts of films that they won't (or most other folks for that matter). Realism and absurdity rarely affect me.

They did bring up a few good points about this movie though;
[Show spoiler]why didn't Viggo's character call the police when all the gangsters started rolling into town? That would have made sense. Also, what was up with William Hurt's character? He acted like quite the idiot, couldn't shoot straight when the guy was all of five feet in front of him, and then he got locked out of his own house. Jeez!

Hidden away on disc #4 of the “Superman” special features was an interesting little gem: “Superman and the Mole Men.”

Yeah, this is an older one, so the production quality is notably weaker, and George Reeves is not quite as good as Christopher Reeves. This is basically a short little adventure, offering little in terms of development or anything profound. But it was a nice little story (one that has a pretty obvious Cold War allegory actually), and it was okay to watch. If I had to complain about anything, it’s that some of the characters were way too excessive in their hysteria and violence, and it kinda ticked me off. Stupid lynch mob!

3/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 3/5, film: 3/5)

I wish more movies came with little bonus movies.

I think Viggo didnt call the small town ploice because he knew
[Show spoiler]the gangsters were mean enough, and skilled enough to just lay waste to the entire force, with NO remorse.
IMO

I wouldn't say it was dumb, I thought it was just a good idea stuck in a mediocre movie. Best parts where the flashbacks (which are the heart of the movie) and the parts in Iraq are most boring.

Death Note (4/5) and Death Note: The Last Name (4/5)
Interesting thrillers based on a Japanese Manga. Best way to describe it would be a Japenese teenager version of Fallen. Light Yagami comes into possession of a notebook with mystical powers, write someone's name in the book and they die.

Don't want to go into more detail, but the Taiwan discs are very good and extremely cheap right now from DVD.JSDVD.COM.
