![]() "A Clockwork Orange" is probably my favorite Kubrick film (would probably be well within my personal top 20 favorites). I think it is way more engaging than "2001," and the artistic quality is through the roof. Do be warned though: it is pretty darn weird with lots of violence and brutality... ![]() |

"Apollo 13."
Most films directed by Ron Howard don't usually stick with me, and I forget about them. "Apollo 13" is the exception, and would probably be my favorite among his work. The story's incredible, very tense, and believable (I'm not sure how historically accurate it is, but the production value looks very detailed, and the events are recreated very precisely, so I wouldn't be surprised one way or another). Characters are strong and have a great sense of realism. Photography is solid, production value is high, and a lot of the SFX hold up to this day. Music is good (though parts of it reminded me of the score for "Sneakers"). 4.1666666666666667/5 ![]() Or rather, 4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4.5/5, film: 4/5) The Blu-Ray is great. PQ looks very sharp and detailed. Some noise reduction may have been applied, but if so it's light and doesn't really take away the details. Colors are mostly good; some faces looked a little flushed, but that might have been the way it was filmed. Sound quality seemed decent. PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4/5 |

Obviously I am also a huge Clockwork Orange fan. The score is near perfection, haunting and furturistic just very original. If you do pick this blu up and you should by the way. I think it can be had for a mere 10 piece. The language in the film takes some time to get accosumed to but Kubrick plays this perfectly, in that he uses visuals to define the language, genius and I say without hesitation purely EPIC!

Just finished the Die Hard Collection
Die Hard 4/5 Die Hard 2 (Die Harder) 3/5 Die Hard 3 (With a Vengeance) 4/5 Live Free or Die Hard 4.5/5 The last one is simply the best! Well it has the best overall entertainment. And of course it sticks to the originals especially with the dialogue. |

Master and Commander
First time viewing, it was $10 on Amazon and it got some recommendations from a couple of my pals on the site so I gave it a shot. It wasn't great imo, but it was definitely good. I'm not in a "reviewy" mood ![]() Rating - 3.75/5 Sparrow is champion among the battle of the 2003 Capt. Jacks ![]() |

8 1/2 really did something to me. I really want to watch it again! What a cool movie and acted with perfection. This movie might end up on my all time list. Gotta watch it again before i make that decision though.

Departures (2008)
This is one of those movies I am truly glad I watched. I thought it was going to be depressing, which it sort of was, but it offers so much more. It demonstrates the beauty and peace one can find in death and music. At first, no one understands the main character or the struggles he overcomes, including the viewer. In plain sight, the job he takes up is socially unacceptable and disgraceful, but as the film unfolds, it is grace and respect that the viewer and other characters gain and understand about his particular job as well as a sense of maturity, meaning, and peace about the death of loved ones. The skepticism dissolves into admiration. I watched this with my gf, who was completely unwilling to watch it, but gave it a shot anyway. She found it morbid and depressing at first, threatening to leave and watch something else, but by the end she cried with a sense of guilt, comprehension, and awe because the film unveiled its lesson to the viewer and sub-characters alike. The important thing is what it will mean to you. 4.5/5 Last edited by Lepidopterous; 08-28-2010 at 06:30 PM. |
