You should still be able to hear 5.1 in Dolby Digital if your receiver doesn't support DTS. Make sure your unit is connected via optical cable. If your receiver does not have this then you will have to get a new one as the PS3 does not support the older coax audio cable.

To maximize your listening experience you should get another receiver with at least HDMI 1.1. I upgraded my TV and my receiver and boy was it worth it!

Well I was thinking about it but I already spent a pretty penny on the ps3 and the new tv (Samung HL-S6187W) along with the holidays so im kinda strapped for cash. i just want to use what i have now.

How would US$349 suit you?
Onkyo's 90W x 7 receiver with 2 HDMI inputs (v1.1) and one HDMI output with 1080p switching.

I have also purchased this same movie and have played it on a PS3. I have a Pioneer VSX-82TXS receiver connected via HDMI. The PS3 HDMI audio output is set to Bitstream (not Linear PCM). When it plays it says DTS+Dolby PIIx on the display. I know that DTS is 5.1, but Pro Logic IIx is not true 5.1. And since this title is DTS-HD MA shouldnt I be getting DTS-ES instead of DTS+PIIx?

I suggest you should PCM instead of bitstream. I experienced the similar situation like yours. Then I used LPCM only as PS3 can decode DTS signal internally and then send as LPCM to the receiver
