A favorite since high school. It’s a fun blast of a sci-fi adventure loaded with awesome SFX, a very imaginative production design, a slick and hip style, and a good (though a bit flaky) story. It’s one of those quirky in-your-face movies; not annoyingly-so, but enough to keep it entertaining all the way through, and still have a heart and soul of its own. Bruce Willis is the man; Milla Jovovich is...the perfect being…

Now that I’ve seen “Brazil,” it seems like the two could go together quite well; both are pretty wild, very thoroughly designed, and have a similar style.

4.5/5 (entertainment: 4.5/5, story: 4/5, film: 4.5/5)

Got the remastered Blu-Ray, so it looks and sounds darn near perfect (maybe not 100% perfect, but very close)!

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4.5/5
I got rid of my copy. I love it, but I cant get through the Chris Tucker scenes.

This one has gotten better every time I've seen it, this being my 3rd time. A dimensional character study against the backdrop of the Civil War. I still find the main character to be pretty unsympathetic, and I'm not sure that was intended. Rhett Butler and the supporting roles are the ones that win my heart. It's a remarkable adaptation of a lot of material, even though the second half is a little rushed.
Welcome. Hell of a production for the 30's eh?

I originally bought "Shinobi" because a seller made it out to be one of the best at the time it came out. And I wound up loving it myself.

So I'm curious: what did you think made it so bad?

What? You don't like Ruby Rhod?!

[Show spoiler]Nah, he was kinda annoying, so I can't blame you. I found his fruitiness and the way he squeals at everything somewhat humorous, but otherwise...

Dialogue was crisp; sufficient.

I'm not sure what it is--and such this review suffers--but this film really touched me. Maybe it was Stanton's haunting portrayal of Travis, from the opening scenes where he refuses to talk, to the
[Show spoiler]concluding look on his face in the car.
Maybe it's the monologue, which Ebert and others have labeled one of the most famous and most effective in movie history. While that monologue may not be the sole reason for my love of this film, it's a perfect example of why I love it.

Name another monologue like that. You can't. That doesn't mean it's the best ever, as there are other great ones like the one in Blade Runner. But the writing, acting, and directing of that monologue is absolutely exceptional. It's eloquently written, yet simplistic and soul bearing. Stanton's recitation of it feels authentic, as he doesn't simply say the words but seems to be thinking of them (which is evident through his stumbling over words at times). The directing is spot on, with the overlap of Travis and his wife's head in the glass being the prime example. This is the type of scene that you simply don't see in Hollywood films anymore, on any of those three levels.

This film shouldn't be quite as affecting due to the revelations made in the monologue, but it still is. I will absolutely be picking it up during the Criterion sale in November. Surfdude gets a shout out for his recommendation of it.
I knew you would like this film. So much there to appreciate.

Are Before Sunrise/Sunset nearing the top of the queue? Or has it become the "wrong" time for that kinda flick?

Chris Tucker's always a "tough guy who can't back it up", works better in some movies than others, probably why he doesn't have the best career.

Heath Ledger is pretty good and his "servants" are a great cast to have together, great laughs there

The modern music bugs some people, but the only one that annoys me is the part with Low Rider playing. I just don't like that song.

I actually like the beginning when the crowd is singing along with We Will Rock You

Rating - 4/5
The second time I watched this I paid less attention to the story () and more attention to the jousting. There was a ton of it, and some really good hits.

He was just a bit too much. The flamboyancy of the character was cool, just that voice..... like nails on a chalkboard.

The only thing that really annoyed me about Ruby was his inability to grasp the severity of a situation and constant over-use of the word green.

Triangle story > Inception story.

Did you read my review? I liked it. It was kinda dull at first or just very mellow then it got pretty intense.

I apologize if I came across as harsh. I knew what to expect with the movie, so I didn't expect it to be like Hero, Crouching Tiger, etc. However, I just thought it was poorly acted, poorly directed, poorly directed, I thought the special effects were weak, and I thought it was just ridiculous.
