When I had my Monitor 11s, they were a little harsh with music at high dB's. I would have to agree with Aces on that. They were fantastic for HT though.
His suggestion of the 20's is a good one as well but the extra cost of the speaker stands brings them up in price. |

I'm a little late to the party but from my understanding there is no difference other the the magnetic grille on the v6's. The v5's also have black screws that mount the speakers in. I have been told that all internals are identical.

I'm just starting to build a home theatre. I hate replacing things, so I'm attempting to get things piece-by-piece that will last, rather than getting a cheap system to start and then having to buy everything all over again.
So, would it be possible to run JUST a Studio CC-690, or some other high-quality centre (and a receiver, obviously), for a while? I realize that it's far from optimal, but would it work? |

Ok, I am a little concerned. I was listening to my Studio 100s last night and I still feel they lack bass. Seriously, I mean I hate using tone controls, but I have the bass control up to +6 and was even toying with +8.
I had some old Dr Dre playing last night that has a nice bass line. I've got the volume turned up to a reasonable level, I take the grills off, and sit on the floor in front of the speaker. It seams to me that the 3 woofers aren't moving as much as I am expecting them too. You can't really see them move, only when I gently touch the rubber surround do I know there is movement. It seems like the are very tight and stiff. Yet a gentle push around the dustcap, they seem to be reasonbly loose. There is bass coming out, it just seems so lacking. Looking at the specs for the speakers, they have LFE of 25Hz DIN and typical frequency reponse of 44hz. I have had them out from the wall (2 feet from back, 1.5 from sides), I have shoved them back into the corners. Still doesn't seems to help. My room is 14 by 22 with 9 foot ceilings. They are at the end wall. The room is located above the garage. There are instances where there is bass, but never to the point where I feel it or think the Sub is turned on. And, heck, I experienced that with my old Monitor 7s. I would have the sub turned off and not realize it. Tomorrow I am going to run a frequency sweep with my Avia disc and see where they start to drop off. And I am going to listen a bunch of sources tomorrow and a bunch of different materiel and make a list of it all and see what I come up with. |

I have had my 100's for about a week and when I first got them they were a little weak on bottom to. I am going to buy external amps soon but for now I bi-amped them with the assignable amps in the denon and that helped a lot. Then I decided to turn the sub on and set the 100's to small with a 60hz crossover and now they really kick butt and I'm very happy.

OK I know I'm new here but I'm a new member of the paradigm club and I need some advice. I just ran across a deal on a cc690 center but it is a v5 and my studio 100's are v4. How well will the cc690v5 timbre match to my 100's?
