Nah January sounds about right for a movie released in September.

If it comes out in January just means I'll be spending Christmas money on it.

Well, with everything that's coming out in the next few months and considering the Black Friday sales that doesn't disappoint me too much. I'll just use one of my many gift cards to pick it up.

No rush for this one so it doesn't really matter to me. A fun movie that I will pick up, though.

I was more or less hoping for a release like a week or so before Christmas.

January would hit that average four month window, but it could be snuck in right before Christmas. After all, Predators is coming out just three months later, so it's still possible.

Eh, I still need to see it in the theaters either way!

Ya, it's just an estimated release date. Could come out anywhere from the middle of December to February.

I have a feeling it will be December. Kind of the same time frame of QT's Inglourious Basterds, End of Summer in the cinemas to dvd/blu in Dec.

Basterds was a huge summer hit and major awards player. Machete is neither of those. It will be a fairly low-demand BD title and will not merit a pre-holiday release. If videoeta is saying January, then it will most likely be January.

Videoeta is wrong alot too though (They have a movie Fish Tank for this past June, yet Criterion has the rights and has still not announced it). Just saying. They just put the 4 months estimate up for now like they do with all of the new movies. Then when the date is finally released to the public, then they will change it.

Do I think Machete will sell like Avatar or Iron Man 2? absolutely not, but "fairly low-demand" seems to be slighting it quite a bit. The Grindhouse movies were both very successful on DVD and BD, which led to the release of the theatrical version. Those movies found their audience on home video. I think Machete will do very well on BD (as well as DVD) and will be where it truly finds its audience.

I saw Machete the weekend it came out and loved it (and Grindhouse is a first day Blu-Ray title for me) and it will certainly be in my collection come January.

yea this will do well on BD/DVD sales, however the people that blind buy this will probably sell it due to the movie just not being very good

Isn't that the exact opposite of what it should be? Does this mean that if DVD and Blu-ray had been around when all these old grindhouse films were in theaters, they would have become big hits in the home video market also?

What are you expecting, a work of art? I loved Planet Terror, Machete was just as satisfactory as that.

No, it meant that too many moviegoers had ADD and only want to spend 3 hours for a movie like Avatar or LOTR. Grindhouse was a phenomenal theatrical experience and I can vouch because I did see it on the silver screen, but I think splitting the two movies up probably made for a less intimidating experience for Joe SixPack.

Machete and Thanksgiving (which Eli Roth has all but confirmed is in the works) would've never been greenlit if it hadn't been for Planet Terror and Death Proof finally finding an audience on DVD and Blu. I'm thankful those movies were finally seen, albeit separated. I have no doubt Machete won't also gain a following once the Blu-Ray hits.

I hate that the only thing holding me back from seeing this is the Lohan...

Why Robert, why?

I'm no Lindsay Lohan fan but actually she is hilarious in her role, and in all fairness, she probably has less than five minutes total screentime. The role she played was perfect for her.
