Default Ram Mount iPad Car Mount

I have been loving my iPad but wanted a mount for the car. I usually have it sitting on the passenger seat or my wife holds it. not the most ideal situation while driving.

I pre-ordered the iPad Ram Mount back in May 2010 and it finally shipped.

Over all, this is a very basic mount design. It has a bracket that attaches to the car seat bolt. It has a semi-rigid aluminum shaft with a plastic flex wrap cover. The hard plastic iPad holder attached to a ball head mount. Goes together very easily.

Installation was a breeze. The hardest part was getting the car seat bolt to "catch" the threads when re-installing it. All in all, it took maybe 10 minutes.

I thought I would share some pics and let you all see what it looks like in a real world scenario.

This is what comes in the box. Not much.

A nice snug fit. Holder is just plastic, but a very solid plastic.

Attached to the seat bolt.

Mount in place and positioned for use.

All wired up.

(I'm also going to post this in my HT thread.)

I just use my old school 30GB iPod, and the cassette adapter and throw it in a cup holder...

Well, that works, too. I used an iPod Nano for a number of years in the same fashion.

I just like the bigger screen and the GPS is really cool on a 9.7" screen.

thanks for this thread hammie. i might look into something like this when i pick up my iPad next month. there are times when i'm gonna be stuck in the car or not want to be where inside where i'm waiting for someone and will sit in the car so a game or a movie or video will be really nice and that is a nice stand. how do you like your iPad so far?

I've tried them out in BB & my friend has one so i know it's a beautiful piece of technology and it's silky smooth in it's operation as far as the touch screen goes. just wanted to get an overall impression from you. i have the iPhone 4 and love it, I gave my daughter the iPhone 3G that i had before and she is very happy with that (cause it was free!) people are always *****ing about apple, when the truth is, they have made some very good stuff and have had some of the best, longest lasting most innovative gear put out by anyone and this is coming from a pc person! i do love my apple toys.

Dude!!!!

I cannot even begin to express my opinion. It is just awesome!

I never used my iPhone much because I hated the screen size. The iPad is a whole different beast. I rarely use my laptop for anything other than ripping music, DVD's or photography. My iPad is my general surfing and e-mail tool.

I also use it for reading. I have probably went through 7-10 books since April, whereas I read maybe 10 books in the past 5-8 years total.

I just can't get enough of it. I can't wait until work releases them to the general population. Right now they are only available to those in "critical need" and needs our Segment President's approval. I'm special, but not THAT special. Right now, I use it a lot for work. I have tons of technical PDF's on it as well as note taking software and the Apple BT keyboard. It is great for business and personal uses. Far better than having to wait for a laptop to power up, try to get a wifi signal or ya 3G card to work. My iPad 3G is on and ready to use in a few seconds.

I could probably go on and on about how I have found different uses for it, but I think you get the point.

Thanks!
Looks pretty cool inside the car like that, it reminds me of how much I want what this guy has in his Scion tC http://www.scionlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191598

Wish I could get him to put one in my car. It runs everything, he even took out his HVAC controls so they are all built into the touch screen.

I know I can't imagine the work he has probably put into it, plus i'm sure it has set him back quite a pretty penny too.

I've never had success with "suction cup" style mounts. I have had two -- one for a GPS and one for my iPhone. When attached to my windshield, they seemed fine, but sometimes the suction would "giuve up" and the mount would fall down. Fortunately, this usually happened when no devices were installed in the mount (once my GPS fell during a drive). Also, I really don't want an iPad obstructing my view like that.

Additionally, my dashboard is such a way that, again, the windshield would be obstructed.

I prefer the position of the Ram Mount and that my iPad is right near where my hand naturally rests on my shifter.

BTW, thanks for sharing this find.
