I take it there's no news of them possibly releasing the Extended Cuts down the road.

I don't know if you own the DVD's, but the special features that come with the Blu-ray releases are pretty much the same as the DVD special features with the same low (480p) resolution.

If I am not mistaken, they are actually the same exact 2nd DVD discs from the original DVD release.

Got Fellowship today, same issue here. Two Towers is coming tomorrow, so I hope that's not messed up too. My copy of ROTK had the special features disk as intended, though.

just got done watching extended version of "the two towers", man what a great film and it hurts so much more that the EE's are not on bluray. im thinking about getting an oppo bluray player eventually cuz its supposed to increase DVD resolution extremly well, so at least an alternative does exist if new line is gonna be this slow about putting the EE's on bluray. believe me, its tempting to want to see the trilogy in HD, but if its not the EE's, its just not gonna cut it.

this article pretty much sums up my feelings: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/02/23/...y-angers-fans/

Question, I've seen this version in Best Buy. It sounds like there's no digital copies, but look at the second paragraph at the top. It says that it includes digital copies. Typo?

Just got Two Towers from Amazon, and this one also has a digital copy (and no code) in place of the special features. I give up. Amazon customer support is no help unless you just want to swap stuff for a new version, and WB has no customer support line to complain about this.

Won't be for a couple of years. I think New Line is holding them off until they can coincide with the theatrical release of The Hobbit.

also the same false advertising: the back states DTS HD MA 6.1 A reviewer of the individual Fellowship and Two Towers states the matrixed rear center channel of sound is reinstated - I think otherwise and don't think we will see the true 6.1 soundmix til the extended cuts come out

I'd really rather have the Extended Editions, but stupid me sold mine when the Blu-Ray was announced for the original trilogy set thinking the EEs wouldn't be far behind. I guess I'll just buy the individual copies at Wal-Mart or find a good used version of the boxset.

It sucks that the PQ is bad. Just how bad is it exactly?

It is not bad, not really. It is just not as good as expected and as the movies deserved, specially for the first one, that looks quite soft and lacking detail.

But the second and third look much better, and the whole set is more than acceptable if you are interested in having the theatrical cuts, as I am.

Personally, after renting them to check them out, I chose to wait, in hopes that they re-release them with better transfers at a later time, which I know it's pretty unlikely.

To sum it up: Disapponting? Yes. A mess? Not at all. Will you be happy with them? Probably.

Let's just hope they do a better and more careful job with the extended editions when they come.

Thanks Roy!

I really hope the EEs come out at some point. I loved my DVD versions of them. I think they added alot to the movies.

They don't look bad. The whiners have made the issues bigger than they really are. They're not perfect, but they look better than they ever have on home video.

Or in theaters for that matter. I saw each film over a dozen times in theaters and the Blu-Ray's look better, especially Fellowship. They can't compete with the size, but sharpness and detail go to the Blu-Ray, hands down.

Got my replacement copy of Fellowship from Amazon and the exact same issue of a digital copy disc (with no code) in place of the special features dvd happened again. DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON. Many if not all of their Fellowship/Towers copies have this problem. Best thing to do is buy from a B&M store.

There were no "true" 6.1 soundmixes. They were all 5.1 EX/ES matrixed.
