She did a David Lynch movie. Buy the ticket, take the ride!!! No need to get modest and mousey now.

You guys stop picking on me!!!!

I ran out of **/10 room, ok???

I had to show that I preferred BB to TDK, yet preferred all of Nolan's films to BB...the 10 scale just runs out of room...I'm not going to go 9.9, 9.8, 9.7, for the sake of giving TDK a 9.0, so take that!!!

So....does that "max" apply to ANY "superhero" movie?
Especially the ones Squid mentioned.

Besides being desert based and having some humor in it....it's not like the Mummy at all.

But I really liked The Mummy (the second was ok and the third....well I saw it) and Prince of Persia...so

I seriously don't even know the last 2 on your list...are those movies?

See...I told you... I'll admit I'm being somewhat close-minded here to a genre, but everything from Batman to Spiderman to Ironman seems to have a lot of common overlap. only difference is the dude has a different colored suit and different powers. the commonalities: villian trying to hurt innocent civilians, with showdown near the end of the movie..just puts me into sleep mode.

this is the retort of all the "2001 and There Will Be Blood put me to sleep." posts

You could have done this...

Memento 10/10
Following 9.5/10
Prestige 9.0/10
Insomnia 8.5/10
Batman Begins 8.0/10
TDK 7.5/10

Yeah, but I'll admit its not a good thing -- I shouldn't have that kind of cap on a film before I watch it I put some action films on my queue, to try and be a little more open to them and see if i'll like 'em.

Senor Titaniums = Ironman

Arachnaboy = Spiderman

But I hear you, about the formula.

I know, but here's my logic:

4 categories of NOlan films:

(1) Memento/Following: cream of the crop (9.5-10)

(2) Prestige: semi-cream of the crop (9)

(3) Insomnia/BB (8)

(4) TDK (7)

I wanted a decent gap between each (1)-(4) above. Your 0.5 drop from Prestige to Insomnia is too small. and 0.5 drop from BB to TDK is also too small. Ok I renumbered them above.

TDK = 7/10. Now can I come back in the house?

You are going to stay out there until you give a proper in depth analysis of Inception, young man. Still can't believe most people don't see Shooter as a great film.

With a 7/10, I suppose I can forgive you

TDK is my second favorite movie though....so you're still on thin ice!

At least he doesn't think it's the most over-rated movie ever like I do, the more people call it the best movie ever, the further down my lists it falls. Right now at 7.7/10, way down from the 9+/10 in 2008.

Since, like you said, they tend to have a traditional formula...maybe you should go in gauging them mostly on the basis of how well they executed that formula and how good the performances were.

Kind of how Squid will say, something like "On a comedy scale - x/x"

Why do other peoples' opinions affect your rating

I couldn't care less what anyone thinks about movies I like. As I just said, TDK is my second favorite film. Will a lot of people probably think, "Wow..." at that statement? Maybe.

Do I care? No

I'd say Scorpion King is a better comparison than Mummy (not necessarily quality wise...though again, I like that one too...but more like partial story points wise).

Only if you wipe your feet.

I am very curious to read what you have to say about Inception when it comes out.

I used to list Empire Strikes Back as #3 but I removed it....what took its place? No idea.
I haven't put any more thought into an official list past #2 since then
