Here's a topic:

HD DVD - The Look and Sound of Perfect

It regularly not full HD, it's not DVD, and it's not perfect. Discuss.

Blu-ray wakes up in the morning and pisses excellence. HD DVD, if your not first, your last.

Maybe HD DVD should rename itself the Magic Man? Now you see them...now you don't.

Yes it should. So now we know that HMM simply chop off the decimal places and don't bother rounding up or down!

I wonder if they do the same thing with YTD and SI?

Mathematically, yes. But in these things, the bigger number gets rounded down, to prevent 99.6:0.4 becoming 100:0.

Nice to see even Hairspray showing up in three of the columns, including aggregate. Again, without Transformers, HD would be in the dumpster.

-Greg

P.S. Hairspray was New Line, but Warner's was distributing it, if I'm not mistaken.

Default Format war now in the endgame?

I think it's significant that Blu won so decisively on a big shopping day when disc sales overall are up. That really shows which way the HDM market is leaning. Perhaps we will look back on Black Friday as the beginning of the endgame in the format war. Toshiba risked its entire position and (so to say) sacrificed its queen with the $199 and $99 firesale gambit; this had minimal effect on disc sales, so now for Blu it's a matter of finishing and, er, avoiding that stalemate Howard Stringer never should have mentioned.

okay if you owned a business what would you rather see for the respective formats

BD
Box Set: 50k @ 100 bucks
Single Disc OOTP: 75k @ 25 bucks

HD DVD

Box Sex 20k @ 100 bucks
Single Disc OOTP: 85k @ 25 bucks

(These are not predicted sales, just an example of why they care more about the box set, because it makes them more $.)

Anybody know why "Open Season" was the number two title for the week? It seems odd for such an old title to make such a dramatic move. Was it advertised/on sale in a B&M store or something?

EDIT: Never mind. I see the post about BBY now. Thanks.

The SI did tick up a point. The past week was a high volume week so it moved the dial. I'd bet that it almost got the YTD to turn over as well, so next week should be able to get YTD up to 66/34... that's going to be my prediction.
