Sort of a bummer, I was liking Georgia's outside-the-box thinking with Oregon. I'm sure they'll schedule a like quality opponent, like Louisiana-Lafayette... :S
Under the system we have right now there is little incentive for SEC schools playing an already brutal schedule to play tough non-conference games. All it does is reduce the chances they run the table and make it to a national campionship game.

lol I can only hope Maryland comes to their senses with scheduling Texas twice

In other news, turns out Boise State's statement that they've been calling everybody to play them "anytime, anywhere" are being refuted by at least Nebraska and Alabama.

Alabama says no one from BSU ever called them.

Nebraska says BSU wanted $1 M.

$1 million is not an outrageous price for a home game with no return game against a quality opponent. Ohio State is paying Colorado $1.4 million for a home game next season, and paid $1 million for a game against Navy last season. Missouri paid $850,000 for a game this season versus San Diego State. Texas paid Florida Atlantic $900,000 for a game this season. Boise State is a better opponent than any of those schools, and you are guaranteed a nationally televised night game against them. I assume Boise didn't call Alabama because either Alabama's schedule was already full or they knew Alabama wouldn't play them with a game against Penn State already on their schedule.

If you're going to have the mentality of "play us anytime, anywhere, if you dare", but then demand $1 million, it's ridiculous and undermines your mentality.

Why in the world would Ohio State want to play Colorado and pay them $1.4 million to do it? Defies logic.

It's being reported that if (in reality when) the University of Minnesota fires coach Tim Brewster their first choice to replace him will be Tony Dungy. Dungy was also the Gophers first call when they fired Glen Mason. While it seems unlikely Dungy would want to become a college coach he is a graduate from Minnesota and played quarterback there and as a college coach he would get a chance at being a mentor to young players. Dungy has already said he wouldn't be interested in the job though, and Dungy's wife reportedly hates cold weather. The next candidate for the job would be another former Gopher QB in Marc Trestman. Trestman is in his third season with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes and won the Grey Cup his first year before losing in the Grey Cup last year.

I already knew that... I find it funny they act all high and mighty that they supposedly called every D1 team and then saying everyone's afraid to play them.

Alabama can say what they want but after that display against the Razorbacks is it really so hard to believe they'd be afraid to play Boise State?

Yes, I think it's hard to believe that any team is "scared" to play another team in college football -- particularly a team like Alabama.

Arkansas > Oregon State + Virginia Tech

Yeah really what a knock to Arkansas to be compared to an average Oregon State and a subpar Vtech team (both of which did quite well against them)

I wonder when people are going to stop attacking Boise State for how they win or who they're beating and just marvel at the fact that they simply don't lose.

When they play ranked teams that don't lose to schools like James Madison, and win decisively not on some gimmick plays and/or eek out wins.

Are you serious or just kidding? Arkansas is one of the better teams in the nation and Alabama had to play them in their house. You're comparing apples and oranges.

I'll bet either Arkansas or Alabama would win by 10-20 points playing @ Boise or by 15-30 points playing @ home against Boise.

I suppose you also think Brigham Young deserved to win that 1984 national championship by running the table and not playing a single ranked team in 13 games and having like the 70th toughest schedule too, right?

I know nothing about Brigham Young, I do know Boise State is one of the best schools in the country though and has been for some time. Does it mean they could win a national championship? Perhaps not but the best way to find out is not to keep leaving them out of the game.

Same deal as Boise. Most people don't realize that Brigham Young went 13-0 in 1984 and were voted #1 at year end despite playing zero teams that ended the year ranked.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_BY..._football_team

That BYU team is widely regarded as the worst college football national champion of all-time. They would have been destroyed by pretty much any ranked team.

The system we have isn't fair, I'll agree. But what would be more unfair, leaving a 1-loss SEC team out of the title game or an undefeated Boise team? You have to factor in strength of schedule and any 1-loss SEC team is goingto better than Boise by a mile.

See while their ranking says they deserves a shot. I just don't think they've done enough, but thats just me. In all honesty I would be quite intrigued to see them play some good SEC schools, and even some Big 10 schools and see how they do against them. Hopefully that happens, and they really show they deserve to be there and don't need OT and some gimmick stuff to pull out a win like the did against Oklahoma, or just get destroyed like OSU did when they were #1 playing marginal teams and then met Florida in the NC game.

I agree I just wish we had a playoff so we could get all the SEC, Big12 teams, and a then a few from the Big10, Pac-10 and a couple of these tiny schools.
