I guess that Amazon $26 pre-order price months back was the cheapest. Target.com does have it for $25.99 + tax + shipping. I want this for sure but doesn't look like will be deals on this unfortunately.

Didn't show up at BB, Target, Borders, or B&N. I ordered off of Amazon and hope it doesn't take 11-12 days to ship as it states.

I pre-ordered on BestBuy.com since it was technically cheaper (and I am a Silver Reward Zone member so shipping is free). I got an email last night that mine has shipped. Honestly I am surprised because the Dark Night of the Scarecrow was "backordered" for 1-2 weeks.

I got mine today from BestBuy.com and... I cannot comment on the cropping as I don't have the DVD and really cannot remember what it looked like on HBO in that aspect. However I can say that...sadly... the PQ is pretty bad. Now, I am not a blu ray guru and only call them by what my eyes see. To give reference, I think many of the movies from the 70s and 80s that people hate because of the grain and because they aren't pristine are stunning. I will watch almost anything and be happy if I can see something new I don't recall seeing (detail) or if there are scenes that are bright and clear. This one looks like...mud. There are a few scenes here and there where a small hope of HD shines through and then there are many moments where I would swear I was watching a VHS tape. There are daylight scenes that are so bad it makes Dirty Dancing BD (both of them) look reference quality.
I am not great with sounds and I really dont have the best setup for that but it sounded pretty good to me. So don't take this as the gospel as I am just someone who appreciates a good blu ray depending on how it was shot and what it was meant to look like. I just cannot imagine The Private Eyes was ever meant to be this messy. |

That's very disappointing. And it's very frustrating with the price of this one if they've put very little into the restoration on this. I already sold my DVD and I want this movie so I'll pay the fee on this one. I really wish there were some kind of standards forcing studios to meet certain criteria before releasing movies on blu-ray.

Damn! But thanks for your review, Blueoktober. Looking forward to reading more feedback from others who've picked this up, to see if there's a general consensus or not. I've held back on ordering it mostly due to the price. But if others chime in with the same feedback, this'll end up being a very sad "pass".
