See that's the thing with HD DVD supporters. Exposed with what's happening in Reality (tm), they end up making their own rules, benchmarks and conditions of success. We all know that studio support can only come from software sales, it would be hard to argue against that. But confronted to that reality, they had to make up a link named "attach rates", and from there try to exclude all elements that would look defavorable, and attach elements that would play against Blu Ray.
With this in mind (sortof akin to a Creationist taking an exemple of millions of years of evolution and saying "there must be a design behind this!" without empiric proof, and now basing an entire logic behind this made up argument), they state that standalone (and only standalones - cue using the slightly inferior Blu Ray # of standalones) make up movie sales, and because HD DVD has (supposedly) a better attachment rate (cue attaching millions of PS3s to the numbers), they win.
This of course totally discounting the Reality (tm) which is that Blu Ray has outsold 2:1 all year long, and will only grow stronger (with increased PS3 "attachment rate" and lower priced players in 2008) from here to easily -my guess- reach a 3:1 average by the end of Q1 2008 at worst.

We deal with facts, they deal in "beliefs" and "faith".
Nothing wrong with that, when you talk about religion.
In business, it's another matter imho.

Hmmm, maybe I should pickup some Jiffy Pop stock before the next blockbuster release is out.

And the PS3 is a player that sells movies (just at a lower average rate, but with way more of them). So, even by their logic they either have to be idiots or purposeful deceivers to use the above and then turn around and act like it isn't, "Players sell movies", but "Only standalone players sell movies." It is really sad that we have gotten to the point that some people have to use logic that some kids could see through, when they act like the PS3 isn't a Blu-ray player in order to push HD DVD. Kind of says something about how they are doing if proper logic is used, IMO.

Some of the stuff I seek is kind of like claiming that popcorn sellers don't care about movies that sell popcorn and candy, but just movies that only sell popcorn (don't sell any candy). Would any popcorn vendor be that ignorant? If the were, would they be in business for long?

It wasn't SlimGoodbooty (or something like that) who said that, was it?

If you listen to plazman (or whatever his name is) on AVS, this entire thread is most likely worthless.

Maybe Toshiba & Paramout should strike a deal with Orville Redenbacher. Get a free HD-A3 player & a copy of Shrek the Third with purchase of a box of microwave popcorn.

one could say that hd dvd salse are down so much right now because all these players being purchased are for gifts, but lets not forget about all the PS3's purchased.

the thing is...people are likely purchasing movies with these players....

remember how much the HD-DVD camp can't shut up about attach rates ...but they include PS3 sales to attach rates...but when it comes down to BD players sold, they refuse to cound the PS3...

anyways...I really hope that we can stop even talking about HD-DVD until they can actually manage to win a week in disc sales...

I could say "win a week by a landslide"...but even by 1%...and then we can start even acknowledging HD-DVD...

when we bring up HD-DVD...bashing ensues and I don't want to bash them anymore...I want to welcome them over to the Blu side and ditch their red player...

Yes, it is Plazman , the resident AV ARSE HD DVD fanboy who regularly trolls the Blu-ray forum and has never been banned. I don't really know why anyone who enjoys Blu-ray would want to post there any longer. It is the number one site for home theater enthusiasts who spread lies.

HDDVD supporters can't really be considered home theater enthusiasts since a home theater enthusiast wants the best quality format for his movie watching experience which is Blu-ray.

Speaking of sub-percentages, what's impressive about the SI number uptick is not the fact that it just moved (which can even happen with only one extra movie sold), but that it moved in the same direction 4 weeks ago too. At this stage of the game (1.5 years after launch), this is very impressive, as we already have something like 80 weeks under our belt and one week really can't account for that much unless the gap is large.
no, what you are missing is that we don't know if it was 1 or .1 or .01 or .001 or any other number <1. What I mean is that assuming truncate, if the previous week was 61.99999 and this week it is 62.00001 then the actual difference is .00002% and not 1%

Couldn't agree more. What beats me is why they pretend to be HT enthusiasts: their "good enough" mantra proves that they're not.

Wow. I hope you are NOT refering to Mike HD @ eproductwars. That guy is such a discredit to the HD forums that even the most outrageous HD dVD supporters are embarrased to post there. He uses that phrase all the time when he is frustrated.

Indeed. It is heartening, however, to see that someone from this forum has taken the time to combat "Mike HD's" ranting and FUD (and has driven him completely mad in the process)... to whoever that person is... great work!

Now's the time to quit engaging in debate with HD-DVD owners, goalposts constantly moved, facts are ignored, FUD and looking to the stars is the order of the day.

The Black Friday figures hit so hard they've simply given up on reasoned debate.

Bumped for the comdey factor and to highlight how riduclous the arguments from HD-DVD fans have become.
