Hi,
I see more of the PSMove demos and such. I'm pretty sure this type of thing isn't an option for me because I use a front projector and there's no lights on when I use the projector. I bought the PSEye (the PS3 version) a while back at K-Mart for $9.99 and as far as webcams go, it seemed to need lots of lights on in the room to function. (I returned it because it was approx un-useable.) Seems more and more like I should move my PS3 out of the HT setting and into the living room with a smaller flat screen. That way I could get the move stuff if I wanted and also I could spare my projector from lots of things in general like Games and HDTV. Maybe I could get a new 3D model and then have 3D games and movies and such too. Anyways,... Anyone with a front projector that tried the new PSMove stuff? I think it's not possible or wouldn't work well at any rate. -Brian |

I am using a PS move along with a front projector (BenQ W6000). I have used the move in various conditions from total dark to basically normal room light and never had any issues. Since the ball on the top of the move really coordinates the movement, light does not play a factor. I have my ps eye undernieth the screen..
On that note, I bet it WOULD be an issue with Kinnect since it just realizes the body positions/doesn't use a controller - I would think that would require full light in the room for the Kinnect cameras to understand the position of the person.. |

Sports Champions can be played in total darkness.. as the camera is just tracking a lit-ball on top of the camera
games like Eyepet and Start The Party need light because the screen needs to see you doing something, because they are tracking human movement sometimes without the controller being held. |

Start the Party needs no light to play at all. You can go through all of the mini games in pitch black dark, but it is less fun that way since you can't see yourself on screen.
Eyepet needs the light to see your drawings on paper, and some other stuff - it should have lights, and the camera needs to be no higher than knee height. |

Thanks for the feedback on this.
I didn't realize about the useful-ness of the light on top the controller ... duh, should have thought of that. I've also played some games with lights on but dim. It keeps people from spilling drinks and getting hurt falling over and so on. The pj looks ok with dimmed lighing (certainly good enough for gaming anyhow.) I have options I guess. I'm trying to decide between,... a) Selling the PS3 and getting a stand alone player that better fits my HT needs. b) Getting the stand alone player and keeping the PS3 with hopes of setting up a more traditional (direct view) display. The advantage of B is maybe I can wait till I can get a 3D HDTV and then TV viewing, Games, 3D Games, 3D movies and all that can take place on that set freeing up my pj for only movies. I don't think selling the PS3 is really worth the time I would put into it. On the other hand I don't like some of PS3's direction lately with the Plus (too similar to M$ and I hate them) and the Move (trying to scrape up some of Nintendo's gold.) Having just changed my projector's bulb I've only been watching movies and that's 99.98983332% of what I bought the PS3 for anyhow. I suppose I could put the games and controllers away and forget Move and Plus and just keep watching movies which is fine. Anyways... Thanks for the feedback. -Brian |

One plus for the PS fans, if your girlfriend/wife is sitting there bored watching you play, the Move can double as a er "recreational" toy that'll make her move lmao.

Hey,
I bought a stand alone blu ray player (with SACD as I have one of those that I love) so for now the PS3 will just get packed up as a back up player. If I get another display (maybe something 3D eventually) then the PS3 may feed that and I will do all the new stuff (3D Games, 3D Movies, PSMove.) For now, All is use my PS3 for is Blu Ray movies so I will swap it for a Sony S370. -Brian |
