Default Unrated Hatchet II (AMC Pulls The Film From ALL Screens)

Quote:
Hatchet II, the sequel to the popular 2006 throwback slasher film Hatchet, is making horror movie history. According to Dark Sky Films, Hatchet II will be distributed on the big screen in the top 20 markets across the country. The announcement marks the widest release of an unrated genre film in over 25 years.

Why does it matter that Hatchet II is unrated? Because, according to director Adam Green, the movie brings gore to a whole new level, and slasher fans won’t have to miss a single bloody detail.

Quoting Green from the official Dark Sky/AMC Entertainment press release:
Quote:
“Having a movie as graphically over-the-top as HATCHET II come out in major theatres unrated is an absolute dream come true — not only for the genre fans but for the entire make-up effects crew, who normally have to watch their amazing achievements get sliced and diced for theatrical release. This is an important event for the horror genre, and I hope the real horror fans support HATCHET II and help change the way genre films are released theatrically from this day forward. Kudos to Dark Sky Films and AMC Theaters for truly honoring the spirit of old-school American horror and doing this right. Gorehounds won’t know what hit them!”

The press release also promises plenty of other treats for horror movie fans, including appearances from some of the most recognizable faces in the genre including: Danielle Harris (Halloween), Kane Hodder (Friday The 13th), Tony Todd (Candyman), and R.A. Mihailoff (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3).
I’ve seen Kane Hodder at comic conventions and the guy is intimidating looking – even when he’s not wearing a hockey mask.

I like gore in my horror movies, but not the kind of gore associated with movies like Saw or Hostel. Call me old-fashioned but, when I watch a horror movie, I’d rather see someone get their head chopped off – instead of someone getting their eyeball torched.

Hopefully Hatchet II brings that kind of bloody action back to the big screen.

Hatchet II will hit theaters on October 1st, just in time for the Halloween season.

Yeah this is amazing news but i wonder how many theaters will actually want to have it playing?

There's an AMC theater here in downtown Montreal, i hope they'll want to show the movie!

Loved the first one!

I went out today to go see the 6:15 showing and i go buy tickets and i see that it's all sold out, so i go to the actual counter to talk to a human being and they tell me AMC decided to cancel the movie last minute because they realized it was UNRATED. THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS RELEASE!

Then i went to the little customer service area and they basically told me that they realized last night that it was unrated and they couldn't show it unless they wanted a big fine.

Is this only a Montreal thing? or hell even a Canadian thing?

Did anyone else got their Hatchet II canceled?

I am happey for Hatchet 2 and want to see it but it is playing nowhere near me. I don't have any AMC theaters anywhere around here just Cinemark. But i am used to it anyway. Where i live we only get wide release movies for the most part. The only limited release i saw here was Boondock Saints 2 and i was lucky they showed that here.

Hopefully the BBFC won't take the scissors to it and will allow it to be released uncut in the UK, albiet with an 18 rating. I really don't like the US rating system for the idea that there is nothing stopping a irresponsible parent to take a 6 year old kid to see a film that is for 17 year old adults and above. The rating system we have in the UK is geared towards ensuring such things can't happen over here.

It was already shown at Frightfest over here, so I don't know if it was cut, but it shows it obviously fine to see it over here.

I also never really understood the whole Unrated rating thing before as it means anyone of any age can see it since it doesn't have a rating. Most people know that usually unrated's are bad and for older people but you still get the clueless people who will let their children watch/see them and nothing can be done about it.

Yeah that's true I still remember seeing a family in Sweeney Todd and they took their kids because it was a musical and supposed to be family friendly even though it had an R rating attached to it. They left the movie pretty fast.

Doesn't suprise me it's got a low rating, read Eberts pretty much one sided review, then you'll see if it's your thing of not.

Can someone tell me why so many are pumped for/give me a reason to see it. All I know is the film is horror, it received a NC-17, but was changed to Unrated, and it's a sequel to a film I never saw.

I like horror movies btw, but it's not like my favorite genre.....

I'm seeing The Social Network today and I got school work done early, so I might have time to another film afterwards.

It's a throwback to old school horror, the orignal is rather liked and the sequel is suppost to be the gorest thing ever.

Do you like over the top gore in movies? Hatchet isn't scary or original but its a fun movie made a by a fan of american slasher films. I say rent the first one.
