Yeah, I saw it crop up on EzyDVD last night and I was "WTF?!".
![]() Seriously, $95 for 1 film is ridiculous just because it has 3 discs. I'm getting Inception with 3 discs in a briefcase with extra stuff for $50 and just got the I Am Legend Ultimate Collector's Edition with 3 discs for only $30. Australian distributors and studios really need to get their act together. For DVD I was an extremely strong supporter of local titles and my collection supports that but with Blu-ray the studios have really done themselves a disservice by over-inflating the prices of a number of Blu-ray titles. This same set retails for $55 ($56.50AU) in the US and you can bet the sale price will be lower so it's a little ridiculous for Fox to release the same content and then expect people to pay a minimum of a 170% markup just for a local release. This is price gouging and hopefully people will vote with their wallets by not buying or taking their business elsewhere. This is extremely poor form coming after what looked to be a promising change in the Blu-ray market locally with the Warners and Universal 2 for $20 sales. |

All the same, that's comparing separate releases from different studios which is one of the things I mentioned but it's not the main thing. The main thing is that here we're going to be expected to pay probably $80 at the cheapest at somewhere like Big W or JB for this and up to $95 at EzyDVD, whereas considering the US retail is $55 US it'll probably sell for $45 AU. As it'll be the same content it's ridiculous that we should be expected to pay close to or more than double for exactly the same thing. |

JB, in addition to listing their exclusive collector's tin (see thread) has just listed the standard 3-disc Blu-ray for $39.98. That's a far better price and makes EzyDVD's $95 for the same thing seem outright insane. I've pre-ordered the UK one for under $31 and it ships 9 days earlier so should arrive on or before it's out here but for those of you unable/unwilling to order overseas it's a local option that is a reasonable price.

EzyDVD has now revised their pricing for their Avatar releases. $49.97 for the standard version and $79.97 for the tin set with film cell and booklet.
Still more expensive than JB which itself is more than importing, but all the same it seems they've got their pricing in line now. |
