The big thing in the US, is the large price sticker, and it's a 2nd comer in the 'current generation' consoles, so the lack of launch titles and refinement hit it harder. And as odd as it sounsd, it's competing against the Wii, at a very different price point, and it's hurting since there -alot- of positive buzz for the Wii now. {Personal Opinion / Rant comment that may upset folks following} It's starting to look like Nintendo may have finally pulled themselves out of the hole they dug with the N64/SNES Playstation debacle in the first place.
I think that Sony will need about 300k/wk production, 100k to JPN, 100k to NA and keep 100k to build stock for EU, and the PSP did have a good stock level, but I went to all Game/EB stores trying to find one and only got one 2 months after launch, that is how popular the PSP is and generally the Playstation Brand.

I feel that the PS3 is competing with the Wii more than it is competing with the X360, from what I hear people will look for a PS3 or a Wii and generally find only one so it is not a problem yet, but when both are available in large quantities there will be a problem for Sony unless they can find a way to finance a price cut.

The N64 was an amazing console backed up by some awesome games, Zelda/Goldeneye FTW!!!
