USA Arn the Knight Templar - Release 10/05/10

Has anyone seen this one? It seems interesting...there are VERY few comments of this one but I was wondering if this is a good "Kingdom of Heaven" like movie...any comments are appreciated...

I thought I saw this pop up on the deal bar for AMZ a few days ago. Never saw it or had interest. It's still $13 on AMZ though and it just released.

Thanks guys. Pre-ordered . Not a cheap film by any means. The $30 million production budget is the largest in the history of Scandinavian films...just looked it up .

i heard this was actually like a mini series or two movies....i think it was 340 minutes total but they reduced it to a short version for the bluray (kinda like what they did for red cliff) im looking for the link right now...but they say its good....i just wanna confirm this though

Glad I could help spend your money...

I'm surprised the pre-order price months ago is almost double what it is now. I can't see it being lower, at least for a while.

According to AMZ the release is 10/12/10.

From the comments there the language is Swedish with English subtitles.

Here's the link:
http://atemporarydistraction.com/201...night-templar/
Note: this is a review of the UK Bluray not the US version and i believe the UK is region locked....

so its actually 2 movies, 280 minutes, all reduced to a 139 minute film...

but I wonder if its still ok to own...if it has the essentials...any info is appreciated

You're going to make Blu cancel his preorder now...

I wonder if they'll make a full version like Red Cliff. I made sure to get the international version with that. Just don't know if my rear can handle five hours of sitting at once...

hoping someone can confirm if the UK version is region free...it has a whopping 6 more minutes according to bluray.com

I've seen the two original cuts of the movie (both swedish blu-rays) and I thought the BD-quality was really good. Not reference my any means, but it looked good.

The movies itselfs isn't any good at all. The first movie is just crap. Bad dialogue, mostly bad acting. The second is better, but not perfect.

There is a international cut in swedish stores and it's both movies cut together as one. So this one is 328min long, compared to the first cuts of the movies: 128min and 133min.

The Amazon UK blu-ray listing has it at 139 minutes, the same as the Amazon.com has it for the US release, and that matches up with IMDB. I've had the UK release in my shopping "basket" for some time, and glad I held off. I don't know if it's region free - I have a multi-region player & a bunch of region B titles, so I don't worry about it. But the UK release is £12.93 (over $20) and the US release is only $12.99, so I'm ordering it this morning.

The second movie is a continuation, called Arn: The Kingdom at Road's End, and is 128 minutes. I hope they release that one as well. I've only seen Knight Templar and liked it alot, and if Kalekulan from Sweden says the second is better, I'm in for it.

On IMDB, the trailer is in English, so hopefully it will be that way on the Blu ray too. Just looked at Amazon.com site and it says the language is English.

While I buy far more BDs from Amazon than anywhere else, never trust Amazon's specs for anything. From Jeffrey Kauffman's review here on blu-ray.com -

Scenes are spoken mostly in Swedish and English, with a smattering of Arabic, French and Latin thrown in for good measure. Subtitles are available for the foreign language moments, in addition to English SDH subtitles that underpin the entire film.

I watched this movie two days ago and I thought it was pretty good. I looked up the film on wikipedia and noticed that it had a sequel and when I was reading the synopsis about the second movie and it sounded like the second half of the movie I had just watched. I hope the release another version like they did with Redcliff.

There's a nice thread about this over on the HTF's Hi-Def section.

FYI, here's some of what I wrote over there:

Quote:
The movie was originally released as 2 separate theatrical features, over 2 hours each, and come as separate Blu-Rays in Scandinavia.

The Nordic Blu-Ray releases are in 2.35 (AVC), region B locked and have no english subs. Probably part of a licensing deal to keep people overseas from importing. I am not sure how these fared at the box-office, but I can tell you these were event-movies over here. The novels are bestsellers, and movies of this scale are seldom attempted.

Comparisons to Kingdom of Heaven are fair, but for me, this is just proof that americans make movies like this so much better. Sure the movies are pretty good, but when it comes to pacing and scale, we just can't compete with Hollywood pros. (Orlando Bloom not withstanding :-))

....and I must admit, at 4+ hours the story drags a bit. 2.5 hours sounds about right.

I just finished watching this just now and I must say that it was pretty terrible especially after reading the books. If you didn't read the books then you will have no clue at all about what is happening. The combat is pretty sweet though and the scenery is beautiful.

i just watched this and it was suprisingly good.

if you like braveheart/gladiator/robin hood type movies then you will like this movie.

the picture quality was decent. i cant comment on the sound since i watched it on a HTIB but overall i thought it was worth a view

i give it a 4/5

if i knew the sound was great i would give it 4.5/5
