[QUOTE=Steelmaker;384082]Uh, no. Just stating the facts. Xbox 360 versions of NCAA and Madden 08 are superior to the PS3 versions, FACT!! Xbox 360 versions of Virtua Fighter 4 and Virtua Tennis have online play and the PS3 versions do not, FACT!!Besides, there's a difference between citing 360 hardware deficiences in a PS3 review and directly comparing the same game on both platforms. One has nothing to do with the other. The other does.[/QUOTE
I thought the developers had to develop the games so that the weaker machine can cope with it therefore reducing the quality on the ps3?? ![]() |

Basically we're getting allot of ports from games that were developed that way. It def costs more to develop for the PS3 but the investment has to be justified for them. As the PS3 continues to gain more market share you'll see developers make the investments in development specifically for the PS3. |

Odd that you included the Tom Clancy games in your "Better on 360" list, usually those are listed as amongst those that are equal cross platform. Rainbow Six Vegas had issues running at one particular resolution, but looked fine at a different one. Unfortunately I don't remember which was which. Other Tom Clancy games are largely regarded as identical (or opinion-based).
They complain about Slowdown in The Orange Box, yet completely ignore the fact that the 360 had it too. Maybe it wasn't as bad (although it's impossible to say since the PS3 version isn't out yet), but it wasn't even mentioned for 360. Anywhere. This is the double standard that kills me. If a PS3 title drops below 30 FPS it's an instant review killer. Mass Effect has slowdown all over the place...does it bother reviewers? Nope. Similarly Uncharted gets panned for Texture pop-up, when Mass Effect has the worst case of that I've ever seen on a game, way worse than Uncharted, and again...not mentioned by reviews. It doesn't stop with the 360 either. Lair would have got 7s-8s on the Wii, but people didn't want that style of motion control on the PS3. If I had to rank them, I'd say the PS3 gets a B+ for it's first year, the 360 (had) a C, and the Wii a D. The PS3 would have less than an B+ if it wasn't a Blu-Ray player, that's a big prop up in my opinion. The only thing holding the 360 up to a C were Dead Rising and Gears of War. Nothing else really notable on 360 for the year. The only reason I didn't fail the Wii was that Super Mario Galaxy just came out. Finally, a decent game for the thing. I got to give MS some props. They did a lot better this generation getting some decent 3rd party support, and they are locking down some new franchises (IP's). Still not enough for me to risk buying what will end up as a paperweight once it breaks. yay..post 900 |

You are right about the double standard. Heavenly Sword gets a low 80% because it is too short, yet Gears gets accolades. The guys that made Lair may as well been put before Pontius Pilate. The game is a really decent game. I really like it and as for challenge of the control scheme, my girlfriend completed 5 missions with ease (the one missions at night, which people stated was "soooo difficult"). However, with little XBOT scum like Greg Miller lurking around IGN's PS3 section, rest assured that a good, but flawed game gets a 4.9. The only functioning games that deserve such scores are games like Friday the 13th on Nintendo or E.T. on the 2600. |

I think it's A for me.
1. Good interface 2. compatibility to PS2/1 games (my model is the first batch out of Japan) 3. plays BD 4. Linux can be installed 5. Good graphic on PS3 games Disadvantages: 1. Bad selection of games (what can I get now? Almost none), but it will be great by next year (Tekken 6, Final Fantasy) 2. Hanged quite a lot 3. nothing more |

C-
The first year was bad for PS3, it was plagued by an initial high price of, $600 and this wasn't fixed until halfway through the year. When it was fixed consumers only had a brief time in which they could get the 60GB unit for still a steep $500. After that, consumers were basically sacraficing BC for a price cut. Now, BC shouldn't be that big of a deal, but the PS3 didn't start getting any decent games until fall or after 75% of the year had passed, so playing PS2 was a big deal. When the decent games did come out the first wave: Lair, Hevenly Sword, and Warhawk, only produced one great game: Warhawk. a very, very short, but beautiful Hevenly Sword, and well, there was Lair. R&C came out and was great and now there is COD4, Drake's Fortune, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, but considering those didn't come out until a few weeks before the 1st year anniversery and after a year of hell with very few good games, i don't really think they should be weighted very well.. Ports to the PS3 tended to be poor and choppy and delays were rampent. Also, until recently, the PS3 had piss poor advertising, rubix cubes and creepy babies were no way to sell consoles. Sony seems to be getting its act together, but the first year for PS3 was a poor one. The only reason it was able to sell a decent amount of consoles, was because many picked it up simply because it was the cheapest blu-ray player on the market and desperate price cuts in the fall. |

Well, it has been stated many times, but the fact the original XBox had less then a 4 year lifespan (with almost 2 of it having the 360 on it's back) and then having a year+ of development head start makes for a large gap in the consoles, thus the crappy PS3 ports. I still think NG Sigma was a fantastic game. Heavenly Sword was awesome but very quick. Haven't played Lair yet, but I have heard mixed reviews. Folklore was awesome albeit repetitive. Overall the software library has been good. Not great. Not spectacular. But good. This should be cleared up a bit more in the next year or so with some good exclusives, hopefully more properly coded games instead of ports and maybe even a few tricks up Sony's sleeve.
With BluRay becoming the 800lb gorilla of the market, things are looking very good on the HD front. I love the thought of being on the "winning" side of this if for no other reason then to spite a friend of mine. He's 100% M$ and HD-DVD and even doing side-by-side comparisons of the 2 where the BluRay kicked HD-DVD in the jibblies, he STILL refuses to admit he might be wrong and blamed it all on the 360. We did it again with the PS3 and a stand-alone and once again, the blinders were on but that time we did it with about 6-7 others present and he was the lone wolf of the party. Oh well. I love the BluRay and with 1.1 just around the corner, awesome times ahead. Lastly, as far as the physical hardware is concerned, I couldn't be more pleased. I have had the EXACT same amount of issues out of the PS3 as I did my PS2 and even the PSOne...zero. Flawless on the BluRay. Flawless on the hardware (no RRoD equivalent). And except for the truly rare times the controller locks a bit (and usually only specific games) no issues I can find. Besides, it doesn't sound like a Boeing 747 when I watch a DVD and I never have heat issues, even leaving Folding@Home running anytime I'm not playing. ![]() I'm definitely looking forward to the coming year and even tho I paid the full $600 for mine (12/28/06) I couldn't see myself buying any of the new consoles even with the reduced price. That Emotion chip makes up for too much being able to play my PS2 and PSOne titles. Overall an A- due to the crappy ports, no in-game XMB and the lack of being able to put playlists into games (for god sake Sony, ADD THIS) with a bright and hopeful outlook for 2008 and many years to come. ![]() |

Hmmm It is hard to rate it for me.
1) Excellent quality machine! Well built with no problems at all. Very few complaints. 2) Excellent graphics and video quality. With BD, DVD, CD, SACD playback and backward compatibility with PSone and PS2 games, it is the most versatile system yet! 3) Price has dropped a lot and for the price, it is the best system available. 4) Not enough games, too slow to come out. 5) Multi-platform games are just lacking in quality... stop porting them over like this! 6) Still not selling well enough in USA, but has a lot more sales every where else. I guess I could give it a B. It is the best value, price drops are worth it, and it is super high quality and very versatile, but it is still lacking in content and needs more updates. |

Also, hopefully blu ray playback 1.1 will be released along with more updates for the online features we are all waiting for like in game XMB access, custom soundtracks, in game messaging, achievements, more plug in support for the browser, etc. I fully expect to give Sony a better grade this time next year. |

B for the first year due to lack of games using the power of the PS3
Someone else stated it but to build a gaming PC a video card is easily 500-600 dollars by itself. I actually started messing with Linux, very difficult OS at first but a complete computer system, blu-ray player and gaming system for 599(60 gb) was not a bad deal. They already have emulators in Linux for Nitendo games and it was only the first year. |

Hardware wise I give it a A, software wise I give it a B-. I've had my PS3 since March yet still only own 5 games for it, Ratchet and Clank being the latest. I also own a 360 and when a game comes out on cross platforms I buy for whatever system it grades higher, even if the scores are nearly identical.
I fully expect the PS3 to start to close the gap on a consistent basis with the 360, but still doubt it will overtake it the coming year unless developers stop being lazy and really start tapping into the power of the PS3 at which point I think game wise it will blow the 360 out of the water. |
