Canada The GTA/Golden Horseshoe/Southern Ontario Members Thread!

With close to 130,000 Blu-ray.com members and a Canadian market share of 3.4% (4,400 members), I'll bet we have close to 1,000 members from this region of the country, if not more. This is quite a presence and I thought that a seperate/dedicated thread to discuss goings-on in the region would be a helpful tool. Who knows, you may even make a few friends in the process.

I'll start by informing those that don't already know, that Toronto will have it's first major Audio/Video Show in many years. It's called T.A.V.E., and will take place next year from September 30 - October 2, 2011.

Here is the Press release and site link

Toronto, Ontario - September 15, 2010
Introducing the Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show
Get ready for the most anticipated consumer electronics event in Canada! After almost a decade of absence, Toronto will host a brand new consumer audio video and electronics show. The event, organized by and experienced team, promises to promote and revitalize the consumer electronics industry and is expected to draw thousands of visitors.
The Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show, dubbed TAVES, has come to life after two years of development and market study, thanks to the collaboration of Canada HiFi magazine, Salon Son & Image and AuDiYo Inc. The first annual show will be held at the luxurious Le Meridien King Edward hotel from September 30th to October 2nd , 2011 just in time for the biggest shopping season. The King Edward hotel is a prestigious heritage building located in the heart of downtown Toronto and offers larger than average exhibit rooms with excellent sound acoustics.
The TAVES will showcase state-of-the-art consumer audio video products and technologies from mainstream and enthusiast brands. Consumers will be able to listen to and compare a large number of two-channel music systems as well as experience full-scale home theater setups. Products on display will range from entry-level components to the ultra high-end and everything in between. In addition, a number of exhibitors will present the visitors with the opportunity to purchase various media products from rare music discs, vinyl albums and Blu-ray discs. On Saturday evening visitors and exhibitors will be invited to listen to a number of live music performances by Canadian professional artists.
The show exhibition space will consist of a combination of larger than average hotel guestrooms, large parlours and a grand ballroom. Beds and other furniture will be removed from the rooms to accommodate audio and video setups.
To ensure a large number of visitors, the TAVES will be promoted extensively through various media outlets including local newspapers, magazines, radio stations, Internet forums, Facebook, Tweeter and several webzines in Canada and the United States.
You are cordially invited to join us for the 2011 Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show.

I'm not from the right region, but that might be worth a Montreal-Toronto drive .

Even though I don't live in Ontario at the moment (in the US midwest, but still a full-fledged Canadian), I would be willing to drive up for the Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show next year.

This might be a great venue for a Blu-ray.com meet, if others are open to the idea. If not, I don't mind flying solo (I've also got family there that might be interested in attending).

I hope this event will give us the opportunity to create a GTG of some sorts, and I'm certainly more than willing to spearhead such a thing. I already know of a couple of guys that will be attending, and several of us have already met once or twice before, so I think it's a very doable thing.

Let us know if you're coming.....

Even though it's still 11 months from now, chances are good I'll be able to make it. I figure if I put in my vacation time request ahead of my co-workers, it shouldn't be a problem. Seeing as it's in the heart of Toronto's financial district, I'll probably take the TTC to get there (I hate driving downtown, though it's not too bad on the weekends, only because the office spaces are empty).

If you want to coordinate some sort of GTG, I'm cool with that.
