Will definitely be picking this one up day 1. Nothing makes a format viable like a large selection of John Wayne films.

It is nice to finally get a WAYNE release from Paramount. Wish they could at least release another title of his the same day.

(I realize this one is being released for the Coen Brothers version due in theaters)

best news in some time!
I've been wondering for 4 years if and when Paramount would grace us with some of the John Wayne catalogs that they hold the rights to, and though I'm happy with the news, I can't help but feel a little sad that it is only being released because the Coen brothers decided to do a remake.
I want to believe that many of Paramount's JW films like "El Dorado", "Hatari!",
"The High and The Mighty", "Big Jake", "Rio Lobo", "Hondo" etc. etc. will eventually be released on blu-ray, but I still don't feel a lot of confidence that they will.
anyway, hope Paramount at least gives us JW fans a worthy blu-ray after such an epic wait.

A catalog title from Paramount? I forgot what that was like. Would like other classics from them, Sunset Blvd. Breakfast at Tiffany's, Chinatown, Heaven Can Wait, Ordinary People, Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, El Dorado, High and the Mighty, Nashville, Roman Holiday, To Catch a Thief, Sons of Katie Elder, The Odd Couple etc....

Paramount has been the worst next to Disney when it comes to catalog titles on Blu ray.

And it's not a Sapphire release, so we should actually get top quality.

Updated the First Post with the cover artwork. Not sure what I was expecting but the artwork is a bit of a letdown.

Agreed, a trademark Duke pose, but in black, gray and sepia? TG was shot in some of the most beautiful terrain on the continent and they couldn't wrest a good color shot from a scene or even from the film's publicity/promotion archives?

Nevertheless, what will matter most is the quality of the BD presentation.

such a typical cover for one of the classic bds.
straight out of the warner "Maltese falcon" playbook.
It's so bad it's almost good.
just hilarious when they come up with stuff like this as far as the coloration.
he does look tough though.

You would almost think the film is in black and white....

anyone would I agree.
makes no sense.
anyway, I'm pretty nervous about this one, but feel a little better after reading the reviews of "White Christmas"
Paramount's old catalogs have actually been very good; there just haven't been many of them.
