I could see one day re-doing Harry Potter as a TV series to avoid some of the heavy edits to the novels - but I can't fathom that anyone would bother taking on such a project given the success of the film franchise.

I don't think 3D converts will be all that popular at home video. I have not yet seen the fabled "excellent" conversion that "looks as good as native".

Any news on Harry Potter 3&4 UCE? PQ/AQ, Final specs for audio, new extras?
Only one week left till the release, and no sign of any info on that. Did WB send screeners to reviewers?
I don't know if Bill got them yet, I'll have toask him. It'll be DTS Master I'd expect

It is a shame they didn't film in 3-D. Was it too late in the process, or were they trying to save money?
I'd imagine the lighting requirements combined with the aesthetic they were looking for might have had something to do with it, combined with availability of the true 3D cameras, could be a dozen reasons

WB is hot to trot to keep going with the series. One that I've heard is that they're going to do a prequel trilogy with the original Voldemort war that Rowling will plot and have final approval on, but I don't think anything has gone beyond "hey JK...."

Prequel. Trilogy. Hmmm. That worked so well before . Much like Star Wars before it - makes for great backstory - but as a story unto itself? meh.

It does? The version in my head was so much cooler.

Its doubtful JK will say no since she stands to make tons of millions off of it.

This is my intent. You create backstory that frames the "present" of the story that you are telling - it informs the characters and their actions. It's rarely as interesting to go back and explore that back story more directly.

She has more money than the queen. I don't think she needs it

She doesn't need the money, but, I suspect she is having empty nest syndrome from Harry finishing his series.

Instead of a Valdemort prequel trilogy - where we will find out that Tom Riddle had no father, had a high mitochlorian count, and impregnated Lilly Potter while James was out of town - I would prefer she go back to the foundation of Hogwarts in the ancient times, the story of Griffendore, Slitherin, etc. The books have given us enough information about James, Lilly, Tom Riddle, Snape, etc., that any new series would be extremely hamstrung by having to match the existing history.

I hope that in whatever she does, that JK doesn't mess with the characters she has already fleshed out, or in Dumbledore's case, simply outed.

Prequels are easier to get right if you go far back enough in the timeline. The problem with prequels set right before existing stories is that you know which characters are never really in danger, you see all the obvious machinations to get the end of the story aligned with the beginning of the prior works, and there's too much of a temptation for all the existing characters to make cameos and show how they were all originally connected to begin with.

Money has a never ending demand. If you have the opportunity to make more you take it.

Do you think The Birds will be released next year, regardless of how well Psycho sells?

I'm hoping Rear Window follows next year as well.

I would prefer a sequel set a while into the future.

I have been avoiding reading the books until the movies are finished, so I am clueless (on purpose) as to how the series ends, but I'm sure I could go for that as well!

TTT is out in England as well, just import it, it's the same disc we'll get here eventually anyway

Just read the books, that way you get the full story and can fill in whatever massive cuts they make (though 7 should be more intact than anything since 3)
