My 250GB HDD in the 60GB Fatty is a Scorpio and haven't had a problem with it since I installed it about 2 years ago.
Thanks for the tip on the Scorpio drive...I will check them out also...

Anyone try gophermods or another reballing service? I'm wanting my OG 60/320 again and to pop in an SACD and PS2 game just because I can... Interested in repainting my PS3 to silver, since I'm about to give up that Sony will ever come out with a silver one in the US. THEN doing my own DIY, but since I know it'll only last a short time... maybe mod a rear USB port on there, too.

I'm hoping gophermods gets their reballing service going and I"ll probably give it a shot.

Hey everyone, I searched and was surprised to not find anything but maybe I missed it somewhere; anyways...

My friend got the red screen of death, ( a red screen that pops up as soon as she powers on the console that just says "contact technical support" in about 30 different languages)

We did contact Sony and their only offer was sending in the console for the $140 fix. Does anyone know of any other way to fix this, or anything about it at all? It's a 80 GB fat model thats just over a year old. Thanks everyone

I had the same problem with a almost years old 80G ps3. I've sent it to sony on warranty. When it came back the ps3 didn't recognize the backup I've made earlier (he thought he was another ps3..) so I guess they've replaced the mother board.

noone tried a reball yet? There's a group on ebay that claims to have do reballing. Just not sure if they're reputable or not and would like some trustworthy second hand vouches or not.

Does the fan kick in really high before shutting off? Or is the fan not turning on at all?

No fan at all,the PS3 is well ventilated...it just cut off, even after a few hrs of not using it at all

You should be able to hear the fan turn on when you start your PS3, are you sure you connected the fan when putting the PS3 back together. The reason I asked is because it sounds like your PS3 is overheating. Did you apply thermal paste after reflowing? Did you put a lot or a little?
