Huh? What's "Nemesis" And where did it say that it was/will be $125 M for TWO Alien movies?

Well, some of us were wondering if it might be the budget for both movies. Because the story is supposed to span two movies. I don't know where Nemesis came from though. That isn't a title I've heard used for this movie before

Noomi Rapace in the Running for Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ Prequel?
Quote:
Briefly: Scant info here, but as Ridley Scott preps his possible Alien prequels, word is starting to come down about actresses who have tested for the lead role. Deadline relays word that Noomi Rapace, the original Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, “met [with Fox and Ridley Scott] and left a strong impression.” Yes, the actress is signed to the Sherlock Holmes sequel, but things are still pretty early on in the Alien prequel timeline.

The most useful bit about this news is that it might be the first step towards confirmation of something a lot of people had probably assumed: that, as with Alien, Ridley Scott might be orienting the story around a heroine. It can’t be Ripley, obviously, and lets pray that he (and the rumored rewriter Damon Lindelof) aren’t working with anyone who could possibly be related to Ripley. But the idea of a strong female lead anchoring the picture is a great one. Though as an Alien fan I’m not yet convinced that this is a good idea, I’m still eager to learn more.
I don't mind her either. <--- Me

Gemma is hotter but I don't know if I would want her in the movie. I really do hope they don't end up making this a PG13.

She's quitting Hollywood to start up a family apparently so won't be her.

Well that would definitely suck, I mean I only got to see the super hottie in one movie and I could've sworn I read somewhere she'd be in this one.

Nemesis is a Tony Scott project based on a comic with the same name. It didn't say, but Scott said how 250M budget for 2 films was denied by FOX.

Movies like this tend to run over budget during production. Maybe FOX veto'd the 250 mill because they don't want to spend 300 mill in the end.

Breaking news: Damon Lindelof frigging rules. Reports are coming in that the co-creator of Lost has just turned in his script for the Untitled Alien Prequel for director Ridley Scott and the executives at 20th Century Fox love it. Why do they love it? Well, because Scott originally budgeted the film around $150 million and Lindelof’s script has a distinct lack of large action set pieces, thereby bringing that number down. Plus the script reportedly has a more PG-13 edge in terms of language and off camera violence - much like the original 1979 film. And finally, Natalie Portman has met with Scott’s team and is at the top of their list for the lead female role of “a female Colonial Marine general.” Hit the jump for more on the upcoming project and why PG-13 isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Vulture, once again, got the exclusive insider report on Fox’s reaction to Lindelof’s script. In addition to everything said above the jump, they talked to an insider who made it clear that a PG-13 Alien movie isn’t necessarily a bad thing:

Quote:
The thinking is that if the original Alien were released today, minus the F-bombs, you could still get a PG-13. Alien is a very Jaws-ian movie: There’s no sex, and while there’s lots of violence, most of it is off-camera. Maybe you’d have to cut away from certain scenes two seconds earlier, but it could be done.
That’s certainly a good point. We already know that this film will be set about 35 years before Ripley and the Nostromo ever land on LV-426 and will explain the Space Jockey that the crew comes upon before John Hurt’s character Kane is implanted by the Face Hugger. But what we don’t know is exactly how many Aliens that will entail vs. how many humans and how many of each die. So if those numbers are lower, PG-13 could work right in line with the story.

If Portman passes on the lead role, Vulture’s article says the previously reported Noomi Rapace of the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series is next on the list. Though Portman obviously is better known in America, I don’t think Scott can go wrong with either actress. Both have demonstrated they can be total bad asses, but also super feminine. Plus, by the time this film comes out, Rapace will be more of a household name in the States because of her role in Sherlock Holmes 2.

So that’s the latest on the Alien prequel. The execs love Lindelof’s script, Scott is casting and hopefully we get the movie during the Summer of 2012. Now let’s all make sure Lindelof goes off and writes a bad a Star Trek 2 script to boot.
Source

I'm not sure how I feel about this news...Lindelof is awesome, I really want to see what an Alien movie written by him and directed by Scott would be like. But I can't imagine it being PG-13...Just doesn't seem right

Ummm, didn't RIDLEY say he wanted this to be the Most VIOLENT "Aliens" it Could be? Now, LESS ACTION Pieces to boot, AND have it rated PG-13??!!

Okay - just get it over with. Kill Me now...

Yea, that's what's bothering me too......I mean, I guess Scott could film it more violent if he wanted and give us an R Rated Director's Cut. I mean almost all his movies now have a Director's Cut, so I don't expect this one to be any different. I just don't want the series to be neutered, but it looks like that's what Fox is going to do

I'm guessing that means Die Hard won't be able to go back to being rated R either....

I guess I could settle on Natalie Portman.
[Show spoiler] I hope she gets the role

I think an Alien movie at PG-13 could be really awesome. I just do not want Fox forcing the issue. If the script and the filming is telling the best possible story in the best possible way and it ends up PG-13, I am perfectly fine with it. Jaws is a great movie, but different than Alien in so many ways. I suppose the core elements of the first in each series is pretty similar.

I guess the fact that the four core Aliens movies, and one VS movie were all R, so a PG-13 movie of Alien just doesn't seem right. But if it's done well, like Live Free or Die Hard was, it could work. I do miss R rated Die Hard, and wish it would go back to being R, but the movie was still really good. My hope is Fox doesn't force the issue and ruin the movie by making it PG-13

I agree with you. LFoDH is my second in the series and I think the PG-13 did not hurt the movie save for the line main screwed up. That is one of my pet peeves with movies, when a curse word gets blocked by a sound.

Yea things like that drive me crazy! And in LFoDH did it, it was a bittersweet moment because it may have been my favorite use of his signature catch line but it was neutered and that was so sad

If Natalie Portman does end up taking the role though, I will definitely be seeing this day one, PG-13 or not. She's so awesome

Yeah, the use would have been really awesome, but it was neutered.
Hopefully the Alien Prequel will not have anything like that. I am not sure a chest burster could be in anything less than R.

Natalie Portman is one of my favorite actresses. It would be awesome to see her in a badass role.
