Help me help my neighbor

For those who might still be interested.

My neighbor call and told me he had spend over $250.00 having his Onkyo receiver rebuilt. He re-installed and it worked for a short time and then it started all over again, shutting down the surround sound.

He called the company that did the rebuild.

My neighbor was asked a question by the company and he told me what they told him to do. He did it and from that time on, the system has worked without any problems.

He was asked if he was using Harmony's IR extender on the receiver which he was. My neighbor was asked to disconnect it from the receiver. He did and for weeks now not once has his surround sound shut down. It seems like the problem was the extender not working with the receiver.

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I have been considering an extender but I won't now.
